What would be the best bait to attract roe too ? Something that’s relatively cheap and easy to get hold of ? That would bait them to the front of a hide to photograph? Thanks in advance for any advice or answers.

I don’t put bait out for roe but what I have found is they really like wheat especially when it’s got an aniseed flavouring on, the buggers batter my pheasant feeders around my shoot

Scent and lures work for people here, walk into a walmart or bass pro  near the hunting/lure section during buck season and the aisle smells of piss where people have taken the tops off bottles to have a whiff, and scent sticks.

That’s awesome Mac, crying shame we are so restricted on this tiny island. I was going to try dry dog food with aniseed on with my trailcam or maybe try in a hide with my camera and see how close I can get for some nice pics. On some of the facebook groups I was reading about scent control and lot of different views on there. Some fellas smoke there clothes , others get a bin bag with leafs and debris from the area and leave there clothes in there for a few days. Others by chems you can get to spray on or wash your clothes inn. It’s all very interesting actually.

Scentlok clothing is a big thing,as are sprays to conceal or mask the human odour. Most people doing stand hunting do so from up a height, huge number of different tree stands and climbers in stores.

I have been reading a lot on trad guys hunting from ground blinds and some compound guys as well. Check out an old YouTube channel called Bow Hunting Ninja, he’s a compound guy that just shoots from sat on the ground with his back against a tree. Gets real close to the deer and has some great footage mate.

This is the time of year for windfall apples. Used whole , crushed or   fermenting  in bucket of water hung from a tree , they'll  attract roe and a lot of other animals to your trail cam.

As for covering your scent ,lay off the Hai Karate  , stay downwind against a backdrop and don't  flinch. Even if they sense you ,  curiosity will even sometimes  cause them to walk closer to investigate . A remote shutter activator will keep your movement  to a minimum.

I bet most people with trail cams have pictures of deer noses where the animal has been intrigued  by the camera and come closer for a lick and a sniff.
