Bloody ferrel's got too close. Had 21 now using rabbit trap and bit of wood on the plate. They have learnt how to get on the sunflower hearts feeders and empty them. Think some twat is feeding them.

Feral pigeons have boomed around me on the estate I live due to the popularity of people having solar panels fitted and need thinning out when years ago feral pigeons were only to be found in the town and old industrial buildings bar the odd racing pigeons that had lost their way.

Could not agree more mate they have learnt to get on the feeders and clean them out in no time at all. They still keep coming. I cant shoot them to many twats around here so catch them up nobody notices the trap and quiet. Take them into the shed to do the deed.

I discovered a new species of bird at the weekend.

The family went to Longleat to see Steve Backshall. While there I overheard a conversation between three young boys. They were standing on a bridge over a small stream watching three dark blue butterflies (not sure what species). One of the boys said, "Look at those birds. They're really small."🤣

  • 2 weeks later...

Those red kites are definitely heading south. The first time I saw one was north of Basingstoke I think. A few years ago I started seeing them within a day's walk of my house (south of the South Downs). Last week there were six flying over the garden, all heading south.

Forgot to mention in the last post that a couple of days ago I saw a buzzard and kite circling in the same thermal. I initially thought I was misidentifying one of them but it was definitely one of each.

When the pheasant poults are taken to the release pens , it's not unusual to see 20 to 30 , red kites, buzzards , and ravens , all circling together. Its quite an impressive thing to see.

Took these pics yesterday at my woodland.  3 great tit chicks,  and 7 pied flycatcher chicks.  I've got about a dozen nest boxes, all with chicks in . I intend putting more up for next year.

I saw the same last week and don't see that many red kites round here.

Cheers, D.
