Idk if the term trash fish is a thing over there but it's commonly used to talk about fish people deem inedible, a nuisance, not worth catching ect.  Stuff like carp, bullheads ,sheep's head ,drum, ga

Carp are also the number root cause of suicide in the uk .  many’s the sad soul fisherman in the southeast who has sat baiting their lines up only to be approached by a man said to be in Possessi

Wild , think our gar and y'all gar are two different things

Necessity I’d imagine does wonders for the menu.

My old man would eat things that would make a goat puke but that all came from growing up in a family of 9 in the 20s & 30s and then 5 years in a pow camp in the war……it became almost like a party trick to make everyone scream, but he also knew what mushrooms to pick in fields and stuff like that.

But mouldy bread, any type of game or offal or squirrels or anything odd….not a bother, he’s make a meal out of most of it.

That’s where I nicked that phrase but it actually fitted quiet nice with what I was trying to convey.

He told me that in the POW camp they would steal potato peelings which were well on their way to being rotten out of the kitchen waste heap, I suppose after that, everything’s a rump steak ! Lol

Traditional butchers are doing really well near us now, always new ones opening. They have adapted to what people want. Lots of nice looking ready to cook products. Also advertising on social media.

This local butcher now has 3 high street shops in areas that lost, and were without butchers for years. They sell out regularly.

I mentioned on here years ago that I'd always wanted to be a butcher and had a dream of one day opening a shop. This is what I had in mind, really well marketed meat, packaged for the hipster wanker

I’d love a decent farm shop with proper butchers, but round here the pikeys would just terrorise it, would nt be no fun I can tell you. Most young girls nowadays have trouble boiling an egg so throw a bag of mussels or a nice fillet of cod they would have no clue

Yeah a lot of modern women folk really missed the mark when raising their daughters.  All it is not is working jobs that make them feel miserable and cooking ramen noodles and microwave dinners 🙄

Lotta my friends tell me the love when I come over because I cook better then their wives or GF's 🤣 but seriously I'll go hang out with them and within a hour or two I'm digging though their cabinets and freezers looking for somthing to cook because I'm sorry fast food and microwave waved bullshit just...yeah no

I was thinking/talking conger not scabby little green eels

I've said on here before my cousin traps eels in the exe, then has them smoked in an old smoke house in Newton Abbot area, they are in a lot of fancy restaurants down here and a few in London, got to say they are lovely... Conger is a bit shit imo, edible but not worth keeping...
