After loosing a stone and half since Christmas and a few other health issues that's not really affected my day to day life after getting the all clear on the prostate examination and tests I have been told I am at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. As any other lads on here got this condition or same as me are at risk and what they do eating wise to keep it under control. I have also been sent a link to sign up and attend these group sessions and advice but don't want to go down that route.

This is me for today.First meal was at 10.30,Ive just eaten the eggs even though I wasnt really hungry so that Im ready for my dinner at 6 after walking the dogs for an hour which tonight will be 3 bi

Just got back from the doctor's after having blood tests last week and i am no longer at risk of developing type 2 diabetes thanks in the main to TOMO on hear who's advice i took he sent me in p m s .

Been insulin dependant diabetic for around the last 5 years, Some will tell you its down to diet but that's not the whole story, There's far more involved.

Yes mate I was per Diabetic then they said I have gone over the thresh hold now. They put me on Metformin which with a a diet change and losing a stone in weight seems to be under control. Gave the group sessions the elbow I hate have to commit to that sort of thing. 

What got me was have the check ups blood test etc and bollacking was a nurse that was about five foot two and about 16 stone tell me to lose weight. 

I cut out sugar as much as I could have Oat flakes with chia seed, flax seed sprinkled on plus blue berries and raspberry with oat milk for breakfast. Now they are telling me my cholesterol is a bit high if its not one thing its another. I like my food and its hard to just live on lettuce. I love meat but have cut back on the red meat a bit have more fish and chicken. Been reading about sardines and how good they are for you so been having sardine sandwiches couple time a week as a snack.

I did think a few little changes would stop me from going over the thresh hold from prediabetic but no. So mate if you can cut out sugar and carbs as much as you can and good luck.

Cheers Arry.. I am the same considering them group things and will give them the swerve. I have bought one of them blood sugar testing kits I don't know if they're any good. Going to be hard for me as I eat at least 3 steaks a week and like a bit of chocolate. I think it's another joy of getting old with me. Lol

You're having a sardine sandwich a couple of times a week but one of the worse things you can eat is bread.Carbs like bread,pastry,rice will spike your insuline just the same as sugar.And you dont need to eat just lettuce to be healthy.I eat loads of meat,me and my daughter go through 3 to 4 dozen eggs a week.I cook in beef dripping,use real butter.I also have loads of fruit and veg especially advacado and blueberries.What I dont eat is bread,pastries,pasta,crisps,sweets,fizzy drinks or squashes,or anything from a jar or packet.Think back to what are parents and grandparents ate years ago and they didnt worry about diabetes or cholestrol.Its not meat and fats etc that are killing us its the processed shit made up of multiple ingredients that aren't aren't even food that we scoff every day.

I only eat multi grain bread now mate and very interestingly is I used to get reflux from white bread of coarse I never realised it was the white bread I thought it was cheese. From the moment I changed to multi grain bread my reflux went. I would agree with most food you mention but our grandparents didn't have the information we have now and most grandfathers went from heart attacks or cancer from smoking. How every most grandmothers seemed to live a lot longer. Also they didn't have the ultra processed foods that are around today which I personally try to stay away from but I do like my bacon and sausages from time to time, but source them from the butcher rather than the mass produced stuff.

I do a pack of 12 eggs in 2 days mate , drives my misses spare having bowls of boiled eggs in the fridge as she thinks they are uncooked 😉

you can eat bread mate just one with a low glycemic index same with rice 

meat steaks are ok eggs like you said are great 

my gran had diabetes she lived until 92 old uns did he get it

Even a lot of the wholemeal and multi grain breads would shock you if you took time to look at the ingredients.Its whya lot of modern breads last for over a week in the cupboard now.30 or 40 ingredients in something that should only need 4 max.I cant remember the exact ammount but I was reading somewhere about how much sugar is in a slice of wharburtons seeded bread.It would be healthier to have a slic of cake.

Yeah I eat between 4 and 8 whole eggs a day and my daughter has 3 every morning before school.All from my mates chickens and ducks that spend all day running round his orchard.Cant even trick my daughter with a supermarket egg.

I’m not diabetic but my dad is on tablets for it an my sister an her kid on insulin 

but I had problems with white bread so switched to 50/50 then brown but my parents told me other day they seen in news even that’s getting dyed ? 
 

funny thing is I  can seem to tolerate white flatbreads and muffins or wraps etc .

Most bread nowadays is full of preservatives, Greggs bread can last 2 weeks or more without going mouldy!,

The reason i know this, Is because i brought a loaf of. Hovis. Sunblest. Warburtons. Robertson's, Asda`s own, Tesco`s own, Morrisons own and Greggs, Placed them on the table in the shed and inspected them for Mould daily. Most lasted between 4 and 7 days but the Greggs stuff, Wow it`s unreal. it feels as fresh after a fortnight as it felt the day it was purchased, Possibly make you glow green at night if you ate to much of it though Lol.
