All a little too late in my opinion....most will be wasted by the powers that be....  the river is a shadow if its self and it will take 10/15 yrs to see a difference in water quality and improvement of the fish stocks😔

Its all been done for a reason...they been telling us not to harvest shellfish etc from our coast line and rivers for 30 yrs or more...but its good enough for the french/Spanish to buy from us and eat it?every cnut has access to our waters for fishing....why do we import Lamb, beef, pork etc when we have the farmland etc here?,stop us keeping a few chickens etc, your discouraged from growing your own fruit and veg, and encouraged to spend out on takeaways and delivery....its there, plain as day in front of you...

An if you do you get viewed as an oddball or reported or blamed if a rat is seen .
I read somewhere that lawns were a sign of status that showed you didn’t have to grow your own produce .
can you imagine if imported veg and other food stopped coming and people had to start growing their own bet most wouldn’t have a clue .

True words they wouldn't have a clue how to condition the soil. Was a chap round allotments throwing fresh horse shite on his vegetable patch. A told him you scorch your vegetables mate. Specially the young veg your transplanting. Check the pH too buy your self a kit. Didn't listen ended up with f**k all end of season.

Told him about the trick with Marigolds between your sets of carrots to stop black fly killing your crop. Didn't listen to that. Ended up run with black fly.

Marigolds or onions to stop Carrot Fly not Black Fly Mate. I use hoops made of blue water pipe the cover the carrots with micro mesh.

Watch this, He admits to letting untreated water into our waterways all the time, not just in periods of flooding. That smirk on his face is also very annoying.

I’ve forgotten loads as been 5 years since I had mine but I knew fresh chicken manure scorched plants but didn’t know other animals would , I assumed it would just make the weeds grow like hell, I always put mine on the ground over winter then dug it at spring but I’m sure when planting seed potatoes I put well rotted horse manure in the trench ??

I knew onions would keep fly off carrot if sown alongside them think marigolds I put along side salad greens and nasturtium would be along bottom of my plot where the fence line bordered the track as it was stonier there I didn’t grow much plus if a dog cocked it’s leg  it wouldn’t go over my veg .

Just brought it up Arry. Think that old chap told me some shite. But right a small black fly. So when he said black fly that's the name they used back then aswel has carrot fly. But with it being a fly eating carrots.  The name carrot fly must have grown. But really it's not the fly that eats the carrot , It's the fly larva. The fly lays it's eggs on the carrot top then the larvae beds it's self down into the soil.

Black fly mate is what you get on Runner Beans and Broad Bean (Black Army) especially around the flowers. Carrot Fly is just Carrot and you don't usually see them just the holes in the carrots or they all wilt over. Marigolds the French ones are very good for deterring White Fly so I usually put some around the Tomato Plants in the green house. Having said the I have forgot to put some in this year lol, but sill time will have to pinch some off Wifey.

My grandfather used to put his old mirror news papers in the trench with some well done manure. His onion were grand. He used to have a collie cross patch lovely cross breed dog she was. She used to come up to allotments never stood on his patches. Always walked on path. And when she got bored of being there , she used to walk home which was just down the road. And sit on the front door step. With us living over the road my mother used to ring my grandmother up and say patch is home on door step she must have got bored lol.

Yeah it says that it comes on beans the black fly. But like you say you don't see them just holes everywhere over the carrots nightmare. I feed the goldfinch the Marigolds. A find the darker ones have the stronger smell. The smaller Marigolds the original you could say. Not the fancy ones
