Expand I have various friends with Falcons, Hawks and there's one with an Eagle. I have been out dozens of times over many years and have seen the smallest birds caught to pretty large mammals caught. All very exciting, but is it all right....... Most ground quarry has little chance, its all about if they can hang on and not get injured in the process. And as for humaneness, it's the longest death and that's if its not intervened by the human. The majestic Hare, the intimate test for a equally matched ground pursuer. Well its a straight line chase for a bird, lucky if the Hare gets a couple of turns before its caught. As I said, then its all about if it can hang on long enough for the Hawker can run fast enough. Personally I think using a dog is far more sporting and definitely a more humane kill.

Expand Takes a bit more brains and a lot more dedication to train and fly a bird properly. Most of the wallys you see buying and selling lurchers and chucking them out of motors would more than likely loose a bird the first time they tried to fly it thats if they didnt kill it trying to get it to the correct weight

Anyway back to this topic Lee Green is correct that trained birds will take species that a wild bird would not contemplate for risk of injury. But that's what makes falconry special.
