It's like trying to reason with someone that's blind drunk , but they swear that they haven't had a drink. I used to throw the mobile phone idiots off my truck. I'd give them a couple of friendly warnings, and explain why it's so dangerous (because ive seen too many blokes hit by cars , while theyre fannying about with a phone), then I'd tear them a new one , and say next time , they're off the truck . Some of them were still stupid enough to carry on texting / calling , while they're standing in the middle of live traffic. These days , I get fed up of hearing my own voice , because we can't get enough staff as it is , so it's just tolerated. Two weeks ago , I had a bloke working on my truck that had been on a three day bender , and was coked off his noggin . He was in a right feckin mess, but I was told that I had to keep him , as we had nobody else to work. The modern workplace is a very strange place indeed . It is mate I some times think do management turn a blind eye to keep staff. I sometimes look around at work and think feck me I don't know how half of these would have gone on down the pit in the 80s when I worked there even though mobile phones were not about it was a strict policy on contraband like matches lighters and cigarettes and even watches that worked off batteries they would have been feked going 7 and a quarter hours without a cig break.

I sometimes think back 24 years to when I first started working on the bins . Half of the old lads had to sign for their wages with a X , because they couldn't read and write , but , they had a lot more common sense than the guys that turn up for work now. The bins has turned from a relatively well paid job , that the lads wanted , into a very poorly paid job , that they really don't care if they keep. Management are all too aware of the type of people that are turning up for work , but the job is so poorly paid now , that they struggle to get anyone at all. Management will carry on burying their collective head in the sand , until we have another death in the workplace , then they'll just pay the six figure fine (again), and carry on as if nothing has happened. It's not their money , and they really don't give a feck how it gets wasted. Thinking back to some of the old lads that I used to work with on the bins . They were a bunch of rough old b*****ds , that would have punched you in the head for doing something that could get them killed. I think maybe I'm just an old dinosaur, that can't move with the times.

I remember my old mate paddy ex miner sadly passed now...telling me how they caught some fella down the pit with a fag...didn't need management giving him a bollocking...they all filled him in good and proper

I remember when i not long since done my training and the old boy i worked with road laying and we were shovelling muck from under the belt outby to use as ballast in between the rail track sleepers and i found an old tab end even though we both did not not smoke he just crushed it up and buried it as he knows we would have both been in the office explaining were and how i found it but i think it was more to do with other pitmen thinking it was one of us.

The loaders that work on our trucks earn about £11.50 ish per hour iirc. The problem is that they're pretty much all agency workers , and management drop them for days or weeks at a time , for no other reason, than to keep them keen . The problem is that it has the opposite effect , it leaves them in a position where they can't buy food or pay rent , so anyone with any motivation , just moves on , and all that's left behind is the dregs , that can't get anything else. tatsblisters 9,927
Just out of curiosity can you jot down notes when you do the CSCS Card test as I have recently done an online health and safety test online through work and jotted down a few notes then at the end their was 15 questions with multiple answers that I completed getting 97pct then a certificate downloaded that I printed off and it helped referring to some of the notes I had wrote down through the course. Nope . No phones or notes, you can get a book for it , read night before and it'll be easy enough , most are obvious or logical. 2

scotty12 2,081
Hearing earlier if labour get in power you’ll need a nvq test for the trade you do aswell as a cscs card just to step foot on site …. Hmrc are also now saying that pick ups hiluxs etc an combo vans are now not classed as work vehicles so you can’t get to save on the tax through your company

Some have less than a tonne payload so they become taxed as a car ..

I know at the time they put the wife under pressure to do it when she was a carer for the physically disabled for the council despite her having been to college and having loads of qualifications for care work in city and guilds but they still pressured her to do the nvq. It’s the “go to” solution for absolutely everything !
