I once asked a woman what work her dog had done and she said “ it chases squirrels in the park” ! Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post

I have been to these shows and won on the racing but even in the working show class got nowt lol That's always puzzled me. There is nothing wrong with the physical conformation of whippets and greyhounds, they have been developed to run fast, the things that they may be lacking which is gained from introducing other types of dog into the mix cannot be judged or confirmed from physical appearance, apart from a better coat. Is the perfect show lurcher a greyhound or whippet with rough coat? It's all just a bit of fun though. 2 Quote Link to post

With lurchers you can only look at conformation and condition. Some look like they are workers, for obvious reasons, others look like they’ve never been off the lead. Don’t take it too seriously, take it as a day out , meeting old pals, making new ones and seeing dogs of all shapes and sizes ! Cheers. 3 Quote Link to post

Some have it, some don't. 3 Quote Link to post

Yep, that would be a hell of a working bull cross that didn’t have a mark on it ! Cheers. Quote Link to post

tatsblisters 10,377
My take on lurcher shows is I witnessed some folk taking it really seriously even as far back as the early 80s in defence of those that I have met they all have been pretty decent types of folk and their dogs well kept and looked after. I always think you pay your money and you take your chance as most serious working lurcher folk take a lurcher pup on knowing the working history of its sire and dam. I remember breeding a litter out of my two dogs in my profile picture in the 80s that were good decent hardy working lurchers but a few lads at the time decided to take a chance on a pup out of a greyhound and a collie from the well known breeder purely for money at the time I found baffling tbh. 1 Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,754
There’s a fb group working dogs of the works ? Something like that and there is a woman with a real nice lurcher pup with lab blood in it that she’s starting to work alongside ferrets and picking up on a shoot .That’s to me is a all rounder fur n feather taken multiple ways . 2 Quote Link to post
