I watched the darts last night and genuinely think that Luke Littler could be as good as Phil Taylor.

Taylor dominated darts for the best part of two decades, and set the bar for those coming behind him. But I reckon even a prime Taylor wouldn’t stick out in the crop playing at the top of the game now. There’s about half a dozen players now who’s A-game is as good as Taylors. And I think Littler could be the best ever. Now a Premier League winner at a few months past his 17th birthday, throwing a 9-darter in the final for good measure. I’ll guarantee his arrival has made a few players up their practice regime, and maybe make a few of the older ones question whether its time to bow out gracefully.

I have to respectfully disagree. Taylor hit two nine darters in the Premier League and I’m sure his averages and number of 180’s are still the best. He was exceptional and a long way better than his contemporaries.

Yes, there are more players playing to a very high standard now, but I think he would, in his prime, be the one to beat now.
Littler, in my opinion is the only one who could match or better Taylor’s record , because he’s young enough and good enough, as long as he keeps his head. I notice once or twice he showboats a bit, nothing wrong with that unless it’s seen as trying to embarrass the other players. His three double top finish was exceptional.
Littler will have every chance ; MVG is not what he was, Bully Boys head drops under pressure, Luke Humphries is top class but seems to complain about a lot, like a breeze on stage when things aren’t going right for him, but he was very gracious in defeat last night, and was probably right in saying him and Littler are the two best in the world.

I’ve followed darts for a very long time, my missus was world ranked many years ago, but I have to say, I’m enjoying watching it more than ever !

Just my opinions of course !

Cheers.

I don’t disagree he’d still be the one to beat, but I reckon if he started out today he wouldn’t have anything like the trophy haul he has, and I doubt anyone will ever match that.
Taylor was consistently brilliant with unbelievable stats but I think the difference is that he was so much better than his contemporaries that he could get away with a poor game or two.., the general standard now is such that he’d not get that breathing space.

I hope Littler keeps his feet on the ground, and I really hope there’s a few more like him in the pipeline. Darts will be in good fettle for another 30 years at least.
