Its Horses for courses lads, If you held a Good Whippet and a Good saluki and bolted a rabbit across an open field, Then slipped them, The whippet will have picked up the rabbit before the Saluki could even get out of first gear, Its that initial explosion of speed that sets the Whippet apart from other breeds, That's why i believe in a general working lurcher a bit of whippet is always a good thing.

No chance a whippet will beat a coursing dog at anything they are not fast enough

Coursing dogs are only good for hares and the odd handful of rabbits, worse than useless for any animal with a bit of strength or grit about them, most of em are jackin hoors, most of the feckers haven't even a handful of poxy foxes in em before they're standing off them barking or pulling them about by the arse.
