Hi just wondered if anyone had a hob vasectomised lately and could give a rough idea of costs? Is it a procedure any vet practice will carry out or are you best of going to somewhere that specialises in this sort of thing?

I intend to breed my hob and jill when she comes season, to keep a Jill for myself and I’d have homes for any spare. Then I think I’d like to have him done and let them have run of a court together all year round.

Just to add, if anyone has had one done or knew of a vets they’d recommend for doing it in the north east please let me know.

Many Thanks CC

In this day and age it will be to make sure he identifies as a hob ferret and nothing else

I got quoted between £160 and £380 in Plymouth  went with the £160 they phoned me and said “we have put your ferret under and now shaved the area and found he has one big ball”  I said that’

Well that was worth doing! I’ve been put in touch with a vet who do it for £75, more than happy with that

I got charged £160 at my vets(Im in Wales) 3 seasons ago....was the first one they had ever done🙈....my hob was a bit of a celebrity there after, don't think they see many😁

A member on here had his 2 done same place  on my recommendation...Think he payed £200 each could of been less..all 3 hobs are doing the job, knocking jills out no problem 👍

Hope it’s worked for you the second time. Did you end up with a litter after the first?

Hope so to he's a big hob and I'm looking to breed smaller ferrets for rat holes.

The fist jill I had him with never took but put with rest cause I thought it had worked for him ended up with 4 litters from the bugger.

There's a thing called the jill service on Facebook the wife found and folk up down country pimp out the vasectomy hob each time way they get money back and means you don't have a big cost.

If it doesn't work out and he still gets them up duff then I'll just do that. Can't stomach spending more money on 1 ferret

Don’t blame you mate I’d be the same, I bet you were gutted after thinking it had worked with that first Jill!

I had 2 done in the same place as DC. Was told to wait six weeks before putting them in with jills to make sure all the sperm was infertile. One hob went in with two jills after the six weeks and one of the jills caught resulting in five kits, the other jill just came out of season. If your thinking of getting a hob done I'd do it as soon as you can to give the hob time to "leak" before he needs to go in with a jill. The other hob brought the jill he was in with out of season no problem.

To bloody right I was not chuffed. Payed good money for bugger all.

Then all the kits to go with.

All up duff at same time only had hob and 1 jill to work for a while

I've had two vasectomized by the vet practice I've used for our ferrets in 15 years since we moved to Cambridgeshire. If I remember correctly about 120 pounds in 2011 and definitely 200 in may 23

Anyone in easy distance of Essex ferret welfare can take jills there for a reasonable fee. The vet they use is doing several ferret vasectomies a year and i understand is still only charging about 100 pounds so next time I'll go there.

Btw these are independent vet practices, very different pricing on anything non standard compared to the big corporations

Hi guys, so I have two ferret one hob and a Jill they spent some time outside in the hutch which is a two story with ox tongue and juicy meat that they would eat in the wild.

And cold night indoors in their cage with run free Space to explore indoors
looking for a hob to mate with my Jill  early next year.

My kits are related so thinking, despite reading all the information about brother and sister likely being okay to mate ?
Would anyone like to breed with my Jill, who is very healthy and socialised?
. I live Buxton Derbyshire, I am going to get my hob vasectomise, but looking to breed with my Jill when the season arrives
please message if you’re interested, she is from good stock

Hi all, on a run of hot weather in East Anglia right now and my ferrets keep a low profile when temperatures are above 25C. To keep life tolerable for them I put  freezer packs wrapped in old tea towels in sleeping areas and use a garden umbrella for some additional shade. How do others deal with hot weather?

Is it necessary for ferrets to have there injections I have 3 and it’s going to cost me 160 pound for the first course and then I have to pay another 160 for a second. I don’t work them I just have them for when I kill  pigeons and rabbits so the kill doesn’t go to waste.

I’ve got a 8 week old male ferret and I’m going to have him castrated, will he be allowed to be in my cage with my hob who’s intact. It’s a big cage and there’s a Jill in there too. If I can’t keep him in there will he be able to stay in there for a while until I get a new cage
