Cleft palate

Alright has anyone ever had a lurcher pup with cleft palate before if so how did it turn out health wise

We had a litter and one pup had cleft palate. Quite bad it was. 

I Put it out of its misery. They struggle to feed themselves. 

But depending how bad it is if its barely noticeable and can eat itself then its up to you.

I'd be tempted to go the same way as rowie  if it's destined to be a working animal not a fur baby.

Ok I’ve just never had it before and didn’t know what the long term was like and if it does survive as vet said it isn’t that big, (had to have c section) so I see how it goes but will be a working animal if it does survive

It's a hard thing to do but gotta think of life of pup. 

If it would struggle even as a fur baby then kindest thing to do is to put it out of misery. 

But if its feeding and you think it has a chance and you have time to care for it. Then it's up to you.

Thanks mate and I’ve been looking online it isn’t the nose aswell so hopefully it isn’t as bad as might seem just depends on if it can do what a normal dog will be able to do once old enough

Bred a litter or terrier pups once, the runt had a cleft and undershot jaw. The bitch ignored him and fed the other three, i did what i thought to be the right thing, given the circumstances.

The pup i had in litter had his nose mixed up as well and done what I thought needed done. 

If it grows and doesn't work out it'll be harder to put down. Especially if you have kids about. 

My kids would want to keep it and would be uset

Do you think if a bitch has a litter with a cleft palate do you think it'll happen again ? To the same bitch or is it just soda law ?
