Boots,Bear & Rose..

Recommended Posts

Boots & Ruby were my A-Team for many years,we had some amazing hunting forays both here on the mainland & a ferry trip away to faraway shores. We had a lot of fun along the way,I sure do miss our adventures. Sadly nothing lasts forever.

This was how Bear was every single day for a month after breaking his neck then another pic of him as he is now,I never went to bed for 30 day's,I turned him over every 2 hours to prevent him getting

Here's Boots on one of the many occasions I've worked him until almost his last breath, the dog has no quit in him,Bear & Rose his pups are exactly the same, all these dog's would lay their life on

Hope everyone has had a decent season running their dogs 👍🏻 ..another one comes to an end & that's about it for my old mongrel Boots too,he's let me know the past 4 or 5 trip's out he's had enough

Awesome team you had I always thought Ruby acted as cover for you when it came to nosey people as in you couldn't possibly be hunting just a guy walking his rescued dogs lol

That was always part of it Chaff,no one expects a Pomeranian to be out hunting, she was a great finder of stuff & on more than one occasion led me over a mile in forestry to where quarry had fallen, she had a great nose on her. Many many year's ago now I gave up on all the camouflage/hunting clothing,I wear hiking gear, back pack, walking poles & take the dogs with hi-visibilty jackets on etc..times move on Chaff & what we once could get away with we no longer can matey.

This is Rose just this week, doesn't seem 5 minutes ago since she was a pup in fact I still call her & Bear pups yet they will be 6 year's old on their next birthday. Even though she's had a broken leg & now has a 'bionic' leg she is my number one go to dog. Being brutally honest these day's I go more in hope than being confident, before her accident & before age started catching up with old Boots I was always confident when I went out,we rarely came home without having had a successful hunt. Times certainly have changed & when I was younger I'd not have accepted going out 'hoping' yet as I've aged I am content just having a wander up on the mountains & if we get lucky then great,if not well it's still all good to me. In recent year's I've been lucky to be able to get on some great lamping ground & even get chauffeured around the land by the farmer's son in the Gator,no looking over my shoulder & able to run anything & everything, park in the farmyard etc it's certainly not what I'm accustomed to. Again I'm able to go lamping with a gamekeeper,a great lad he is who again accompanies us & allows us to run anything at all,Rose is my usual companion when I go lamping & last season I even took old Boots numerous time's,it's not something I've done a lot with him but he knows the lamp really well, retrieves great & he thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't think we will be back out until Xmas Day morning,I usually take the dogs up the mountains before daybreak & half a few hours wandering around up there before heading home for Xmas dinner..
