I'm not sure if it's an age thing or since he went blind in one eye but I took him out a couple of weeks ago now & he just didn't want to be there for whatever reason? Obviously it's still dark when we head on up the mountains & whereas he was once eager & up front keen to get through the forestry & out on the tops he was trailing behind looking on edge & quite frightened to be honest, his vision is very limited these days & I wondered if that was the reason he wasn't himself,he was actually like this albeit not quite as bad at the back end of last season, once on the mountain he was probably worse at least until it was daylight. I won't take him again,it's not fair on him plus his back end is really troublesome to him these day's too,he doesn't need to prove anything to me,he's done that many times over the year's Ross..we had a bit of a surprise a while back as he mated his daughter Rose, him mating anything is a miracle in itself & the last 4 bitches that he has covered none have taken including Rose herself last year so to say it was a bit of a shock would be an understatement .. hopefully she doesn't have too many & we will just keep them between ourselves..it's not exactly great timing as it's left me without anything to run really, obviously Bear is far from perfect after breaking his neck so I've been taking my lads dog's with me which happens to be Rose & Bear's mother in old Roxy & their half sister Lucky..anyways I'll be interested to see what Rose spits out, she's a fair little animal herself & the pups shouldn't be too far away from what she herself is as they will still be 5/8 Grey like she is with now having a touch more Saluki & a little less Bull in them, basically hardly any difference, due in two days so I've not long to wait anyway, finger's crossed everything goes smoothly for her but knowing my luck I'm expecting the unexpected ..a few pics of the mongrels these past few days. 6 Quote Link to post

white van man 3,309
Good luck with the pups. When you are working dogs in the way you do I think 11 is a good age. My dog is 11 now and he’s still doing alright. I just notice the next day he’s had it and needs to be rested a day or so. He’s getting clumsy and I suppose it’s a bit disheartening when he’s seeing dogs that he showed the ropes to out classing him. As long as they’ve had a good life then I think they are happy with chilling in the garden and a walk along the beach. 7 Quote Link to post

Yeah he's got a few litters on the ground matey,he's bred some good, durable lamping big bags fillers along with numerous good ferreting dog's..I wish he'd had a few more pups on the ground to be honest,he was a very good dog & deserved more than he has in my opinion. 5 Quote Link to post

This was a serious dog out of Don that was owned by a lad in South Scotland..guy always stated it was the best dog he'd ever owned & I know for sure he'd previously owned some fair animals so that say's a lot to me bud. 9 Quote Link to post
