In terms of routine basic back maintenance we can all do more with simple exercises, posture and building a stronger core but unfortunately its the kind of thing most people dont pay any attention to u

I put my back out yesterday again. Thing is I know what makes it a risk, I know how to stop not being a risk, but I go in a cycle because of work and other things! When I am eating well and exerc

My back is shot to pieces .  I have major permanent sciatica on the left hand side, and I haven’t really been able to feel my left foot for years . The only thing that has ever held it at bay is walki

I walk a lot for the same reason, it’s like a self fulfilling prophecy for fattys, my back hurts so I,ll sit in front the telly eating all day, use it or loose it is how I look at it

My back is agony no matter if I'm in a thin phase or a fat phase.

The full list is.

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis

5 bulging discs

1 collapsed disc

Major sciatica on the left

Minor sciatica on the right

It's fecked for plenty of reason

Too fat sometimes , lifting weights that are stupidly heavy ( I used to be able to lift the back of most cars to get axle stands underneath) , working as a mechanic for years( and lifting engines in and out on my own) , working as a lorry driver for years , and a knife straight through my leg.

Whenever I walk , I have to remind myself to stand straight,  and not to limp , because as soon as I start limping , it all falls out of line , and I lose feeling in both feet , and I can't walk for weeks. Sometimes it pops , and I can't stand upright for a couple of months .

I tried swimming,  but it didn't work for me.  I'd guess that everyone is slightly different,  and the pressure is in a slightly different place. I didn't honestly think that walking would help much , but it's turned out to be a life saver.

A good chiropractor, acupuncture etc

Did that work for you?

I did allsorts and finally they Drs said we’ll give you a MRI, that’s when the shit hit the roof lol

After that, I’ve spent a lot of time swimming in the sea, what I thought was building me back up was actually fixing my back up lol

Against currents I meant mate, the seawater has a different boyancy. Not sure how to explain it, sorry.

Go my route. New hip. Shoulder keyhole surgery. Wrist surgery. Prostate problems with cameras going up everywhere. You’ll soon forget the sciatica pain. Just an observation mind. Jok.

You've just made me feel like a lightweight mate..

I only tried the swimming baths. To be honest , if I lived by the sea , I'd swim every day .

I love swimming in , the sea , rivers , lakes , but I really can't get excited about swimming pools.

For me, it’s a lifetime of moving tons and tons of kit every week I reckon…..but driving machines is torture on your back, especially if it don’t have one of those tidy seats by Kab seating.

I can drive a few machines (skills from a previous life) and even if I hire one in now my back is in tatters at the end of the day…..I think it’s just the posture coupled with your body movements( leaning forward, stooping, back arched etc ) that driving a machine makes you do.

I think it’s one of those afflictions that when it’s got you, it’s got you for life and you just try and avoid / manage it…..mine went the other week again, a turn to glance over my shoulder while out in cold weather was enough….shite thing to have

My back support is a real good job the wife got me, double strap neoprene thing that holds you together so you can walk….like all supports I only use it until the pain eases enough to do without it, otherwise it just makes thing weaker.

That's no doubt the cause mate..30yrs in machines probably millions of bumps and bangs over the yrs..

Crazy you just looked over your shoulder and it went..horrible bloody pain mate..

Would some of those jazz cigarettes that Mackem is an expert in not help at all, or the oils and stuff?

Would help, but not always practical if you got to drive etc😉. No one thing out there will cure it.. myself personally,I changed my mattress and pillows, try and stay active, even when I'm in pain, stretching exercises in a hot bath seem to of helped me👍

I should have added . I wouldn't swim in the sea if I lived in Blackpool.  I'd rather keep the bad back 😁.
