Just a good pot filler

Are there any planned litters of some good pot fillers not after anything with bull in it or maybe a very small dash

Hard to beat a bit of bull for anything. See the ‘don’t want any bull posts’ a lot. Is there any reason ? Obviously a half x might be a bit heavy. But don’t think you can beat a saluki bull grey or collie bull grey for most things.

I guess they can be a lot of dog. Going by my previous experience with the last one who was only a 1/4. From the moment he had his jabs he was up for anything. Ferrets for example were hard work but he was bomb proof at the end. But even then it was more of a tolerance rather than best buddies. Compared to the collie cross I now have who took zero effort with ferrets and I mean zero. Just good from day one. She is just as keen as the old fella for what I want catch though. Old fella also gave me issues with sheep and dogs. He is just one example so unfair to judge you see plenty on here never put foot wrong. They are all different and we all want different things. I just want easy chilled life now so they are too much for me. The poor sods also can lead shite life because they are up for anything they attract the idiots

Just personal preference I’d imagine, and the type of running you’re doing, some of the best dogs I’ve seen for edible game didn’t have a drop of bull in their make up. For the lamping man id agree a saluki x bull x grey is ideal but if most of my running was daytime I’d stay clear of bull blood. Just one persons opinion not trying to kick off a big debate

Aye true enough I guess. Mind, I expect the collie x knew the ferret would win. They can deffo be high drive but in general I’ve found bull types very trainable, smart and biddable. And also, quite straight forward. Some of the collie xs I’ve seen were just overly mental too many foibles and issues for me Agree on most of your points though

The best ferreting dog I ever had was a generation half Bull x Greyhound. A natural from the first day out.

Aye probably right. I see it a lot specifically with bull, but rarely see anyone say ‘no deerhound’ or ‘no Beddy’. I’ve seen good dogs of all sorts of breeding and just as many crap ones of the same breeding. I do a pretty even split of both, and have found the bull type mongrel things seem to tick the boxes both ways, so aye it’s just personal preference.

It’s probably just because these days unless you’re going for a purpose bred hare killer or a rabbit specialist every litter seems to have bull in somewhere along the line, it’s not to common to see deerhound in pups now, probably got good reason but that’s another story

If your just after rabbits then any x will catch them(smaller,faster the better)...but if rabbits are thin on the ground,you will need a dog with a bit more about it... personally I like a dog,that will have a go at what ever is put in front  of it,day or night.... couldn't feed a dog that was only good for one thing...who wants to see shit running off in to the distance and a dog stood looking at you?

Agree with that, but to be honest even a little rabbit type dog shouldn’t just stand and watch things run away, if it’s got that attitude with other things it’ll probably start picking its runs on rabbits eventually

I wouldn't say molly coddle, exactly, but be a bit sensible, when you can.

Owned a couple in the past, that served me very well.  

I found them extremely keen, honest, genuine triers,  that were afraid of nothing, and were very easy to live with.
