Why was it deleted ? Did someone get out of order or was it just a case of banning Greb ? Either way, why not just tidy up the thread ? 
Im not going to get into discussions about moderation, we all know where that leads, but I put two thoughtful and , I hope interesting, posts on the thread, as did others.

Im beginning to think “why bother”.

i did not delete it, so could not possibly answer your question. as i said just start another. i am sure it will roll along nicely. As for "we all know where that leads" well we appear to keep going around in circles there.

It was very interesting and something that i have been wondering about, Probably from watching to many episodes of Aussie Gold hunters, The one thing i do envy about them, is the amount of freedom they have. Mind the flies would drive me nuts Lol

Somebody mentioned a good 'claim' high in the hills. One of the mods deleted the thread so nobody learned of its location. I'm told he jacked his job, sold his house and high tailed it to the hills.

Heard something on the news about a big gold mining firm buying land in Scotland recently, also heard of people finding small amounts of gold in the Yorkshire dales rivers 

fancied giving it ago but you’d need permission from the national parks and that’s not easy to get

Steve, you can gold pan, a tenner for a day ticket, at Leadhills in the Scottish Borders. I used to go there rabbiting, but would often chat with gold panners.  Had half a fancy to have a go and make up a ring for the Mrs,  but it's cold up there so f**k it. They run a course on how to do it at the local museum.
