shotgun firing pin

hello just after some advice got a 12 gauge o/u spanish made shotgun and the firing pin on the top barrel needs replaced i think its the pin as its not striking the primer on the cartridge or even my finger tip when i hold it against it is this something i can fix myself or would a gunsmith be needed thanks

If your not 100% confident with anything that goes bang, give it to someone who is, gunsmith should not be that expensive to replace the pin if needed and give the rest of it a once over at the same time.

I'd advise you give it to someone that specialize in fixing it. It won't cost you a lot..

treat firing pins like shock absorbers....never change one ...do both........the smith i used preferred to make new pins he would harden and temper them..it was never expensive

Always made my own from old carbide drill bits, it could even be as simple as needing a spring replacing.

Since when has taking a gun in for examination and repair been cheap.?  With the current low,low price of guns unless it is at least a middle range gun it won't be worth repair.  It's like modern cars.  Any car over 3 years old doesn't have to have much of a bump to be classed as a write off.  Can't see any gun reparer stripping a gun, and fitting  one, or both pins and springs and giving it a clean reassembly for less than a couple of hundred.  The days of a tenner are way gone.
