If I ever take her lamping I'll put a slip lead on her... Half bull, exactly!! what would they have to grip onto if the collar wasn't there... collars allow your quarry to get a purchase... I'm not saying they don't help in certain circumstances, just that they could hinder and cause problems in other ways...... Quote Link to post

I'm not saying they don't help in certain circumstances, just that they could hinder and cause problems in other ways...... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dont take this the wrong way [bANNED TEXT] but it sounds like you dont run the big dogs as much as some of the lads on here... but I wouldnt be with out a collar you try restraining a combined wieght of ten stone of deerhound x pulling like fuk watching a fox coming dancing down the beam of a light ive found slip leads just aukward a piece of cord does the trick & a collar gives you something to grab when a dog is latched on & just not letting go Try pulling one of these of there prey with out a collar & you end up getting bit <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're right mate I don't, just thought it would be an interesting topic.... macker 5 Posted November 13, 2005 Report Share Posted November 13, 2005 honestly think a colar does no harm. as for accidents i have seen more injurys with dogs. jumping barb wire fences from leaving their back legs trailing. in my opinion very game dogs will get them selves into some trouble weather they have a colar or not. other dogs will never do them selves harm. Guest HAWKEYE Posted November 14, 2005 Report Share Posted November 14, 2005 I put mine on as tite as they can go so barely 1 finger can go under and cut the excess flap off....I always have mine on day in day out they are never off..You mite need to grab a dog anytime...3 weeks ago I heard a noise in my garden..I came out and my 4 year old lurcher and my 12 year old were locked together in a jaw to jaw battle..they have been kennellled since the young dog was 7 weeks old....If they never had a collar on I wouldnt have gotten them off each other for sure...i was bitten 4 times Quote Link to post

Kye 77 Posted November 16, 2005 Report Share Posted November 16, 2005 I would never run my dogs without there collars on over here...the only reason being that there is a huge population of wild/feral dogs around my area...plus coyote/dog hybrids...thus you get pissed up townies driving along shooting anything with fur...if my dogs went missing for whatever reason, at least the collars they wear can be seen along way off... We dont have fences, trees, or bushes, so thats not an issue...my running dogs where the reflective orange collars... Kye,. Quote Link to post
