stephen58 1
Hi Donky7 well done and great bit of thinking that!! to any body passing would just think it was a stack of bricks; liked the second photo were the rat has had to squeeze out of his hole and straight onto the Fenn trap!! regards Steve Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Ye not giving too much fine detail away there, Donks ..... {Edited to say} Oh yeas. I've woke up now and studied the first shot better. Yeppers. Ok if ye have half a pallet of bricks at hand. Couldn't actually swear I've ever yet seen a wall brick over here though. snareman 3
Ye not giving too much fine detail away there, Donks ..... why don,t you just screw a modified rat trap onto the side of the wall , it will save all the bricklaying work, Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
I am not doubting that the tunnels work.........just seems a lot of work to me. I prefer the portable tunnels with restricted access.(See Picture) Rolfe. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
And what awaits the guest inside that one, Rolfe? Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
And what awaits the guest inside that one, Rolfe? Well Ditch........what lays inside that tunnel on that rat run is a nicely rat-scented and weathered Mk4 Fenn which old ratty and his mates find very hard to avoid. Sunk into the earth so it sits flush with the floor no self-respecting rat would step over it.............but plenty have been seen dead in it. Rolfe. Quote Link to post
donky7 9
nice 1 rolfe, i'm in the process of a few box tunnels, its just these bricks were just laid not 8ft from this wall, stacked neatly allowing ratty to holiday inn below. after the JR had marked and managed to ARREST 1 as it tried to leg it, the moment was born. now i have 3 in this small open out build, Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
Nice Tunnels donkss,, but methinks you could do with some rust on those fenns Ill post some of my own pernement fenn tunnels laters Quote Link to post
Matt 160
In my experience, the best tunnels are those made from materials you have found nearby. If the bricks are available - use them! There's alot of work to be made for yourself making complicated wooden boxes. Personally, in that kind of situation, I prefer the AF box, into which you can slot a kness break back. I'm going to try the modified victors though, because I think they look bloody good! Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
methinks you could do with some rust on those fenns Why do they need to be rusty to work properly LL?? So long as Donks is killing vermin with them, who cares if they are shiny or oxidised? The need for rusty traps is a misconception amongst amateur trappers - they need to be scent free and well set, not caked in rust and mud OTC Quote Link to post

The need for rusty traps is a misconception amongst amateur trappers - they need to be scent free and well set, not caked in rust and mud OTC True OTC,, as long as there working thier fine. But my personal perference is a rusty and well weathered trap,, no reason just thats the way i like my traps to be Ive used them from the day i collected them and still caught vermin but i would prefer to leave them outside on the garden fence to get em a bit rusty and those factory smells of them. But what ever works best for the trapper i suppose. Quote Link to post
donky7 9
yes,, good points from all sides... this and 3 other traps are spanking new...... i was surprised at this 1 catching so quick.... there goes neophobia,,,,lol roll on the next.......... thanks all. donks. Quote Link to post
DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , TO ME RUSTY TRAPS MEAN...... LAZY TRAPPER .....WITH ..... SLOW FIREING TRAPS AND MISSED CATCHES , BEING A JOINER ....... KNOCKING PLY BOXES UP IS VERY , VERY EASY .......... BUT I RARELY USE THEM , PREFERING NATURAL TUNNELS ......... AND I HAVE HAD GREAT SUCESS WITH SNAREMANS MODIFIED VICTOR , WHEN READING THREADS LIKE THIS ...................... I KEEP HEARING OLD SNAREMANS VOICE ......... " THE SIMPLEST OF SETS CATCHES THE WEARIEST OF PREDATORS " SOMETHING MANY SO - CALLED TRAPPERS SHOULD HEED ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
Well most of my tunnels are pernemently in the same spot,, I was looking for some promising spots to place some new tunnels ready for the spring time vermin. The first picture is one i dug today on a gate way just outside of my wood,, This tunnel is for what ever might be using the hedge leading to the wood,, Odd mustelid looks for a safe spot to dash to on the other side of the gate to the wood. So that tunnel will be (with luck) picking up stoats/weasels ratty and the odd squirrel and rabbit. Second has been in place for a year now,, it is in a gate way on the opposite side of the wood on the ride coimng from the cover,, agian set for anything vemin like that might be traveling the fence along the wood,, alough its only really popular with the squirrels and rats. All of my tunnels remain trapless at the moment but will all be in action very shortly for the springtime egg predators. I look forward to seing how much traffic my new tunnels pickup. Good Trapping - LL Quote Link to post
