I think sometimes to experience life in such a way is a good thing. My mates daughter is Asperger's and not what you'd describe as street smart but has been in far east and Australia for two year and a year in Canada coming home for Christmas followed by another year in Canada before moving back to Australia, wow what a life experience, and probably learned a lot along the way. Some people just follow a path that avoids the worst of humanity, and at the same time you'd have taught her loads that you're not even aware of . Im quite thankfull that shes got into a really good grammer school that also has an excellent SEN team that do an amazing job with any pupils there that have little quirks or just need extra help in certain areas.Id hate to think what would of happened if she'd have ended up in one of the shitty comps like the one I went to surrounded by little toe rags who half of them haven't been taught right from wrong
chartpolski 23,146
Labour will close grammar schools and effectively prevent a lot of less affluent parents sending their children to private schools by putting VAT on school fees. What have Labour got against aspiration, why should more gifted children be discriminated against , is it simply class hatred ? Cheers.

I don’t think that’s odd, I think if we are all honest we want our kids to be better than us. jmho

My mate has Asperger's, he pisses loads of people off , no filter , I love it I've watched him tell chief engineers they're shite and all sorts , he's a decent friend although I tell him straight when he's being vile or cantankerous and he apologises lol, I'm less familiar with autism and I'm aware how extreme it can be . But there is definitely a road they can travel these days whether IT or work from home or government etc. we should utilise people's strengths ...

Its F**king ridiculous.I had someone a little while ago trying to tell me that it wasnt fair that kids who went to grammer got a better education just because their parents were well off.Im a single parent who only manages to go to work everyday breaking my back as a groundworker because I get amazing support fom my parents regarding having her before and after school. Why shouldn't she get an excellent education if shes got the ability to make use of it and got the chance of it through hard work and I know a lot of the other parents from her school are just ordinary working class people.Tbh a comprehensive school education was wasted on half the dumb c**ts I went to school with and Im guessing things probably aint changed much these days

My comfort blanket is that my little lad has 3 siblings all older than him to look out for him when I pop my clogs. I worry like you lads but I try and be sensible about it because other stuff I have worried about as he has grown worked itself out. He is only 10 but I was chatting to him in the car and saying all the “one day you’ll be a daddy and find someone who loves you” and he said “Nah, can’t be bothered, I’m going to have 2 dogs and live on my own !” Lol 2 1

Absolutely mate.Luckily I finally managed to get her an EHCP just over a year ago after being rejected time and time again over a 4 year period on the ground that her academic report was higher than expected for a child her age.Even things like her getting a tani to school now rather than having to get a train where she would stand out as an easy targat has lifted a massive weight off of my shoulders
Borr 5,799
I think we should definitely nurture intelligent kids with grammar schools , and there is definitely an advantage to private schools even down to the catering lol. But would I want my boys in private schooling I don't know. I perceive it as a greater thing , hard to explain but it lacks humanity maybe my ignorance. If I had untold wealth I'd bring in my own educators and live away from most of society. But I'm not a fan of most people lol.
