leegreen 2,173
How much residue is left in the bore, surely it's as quick to clean your bore every now and then? Do the ammunition manufacturers not do the same sort of coating other than lube? Quote Link to post

Do the ammunition manufacturers not do the same sort of coating other than lube? Honestly if it's done right there none. Just bore scoped my .22hornet that's shit noting but PC cast bullets since I got it for the most are and it's squeaky clean except for the usual powder fouling. That being said if it's a shitting PC job ..yeah it's gonna be a bit of a mess . And here's a few companies doing a contingency right now. Mainly Hi tek which is a liquid type deal that gets baked on 1 Quote Link to post

r759167 1 Posted Monday at 16:00 Report Share Posted Monday at 16:00 The other thing powder coating does is increase the diameter of your projectiles, I have a 22 Savage Hi power model 1899 and its groove diameter is a nominal 0.228". This size of bullet is like rocking horse crap so my cast boolits as they come from the foundry are in the order of 0.225" diameter, two coats of powder coating brings them up to 0.2275" which is just right. I like blue also but as I use and powder both cast and jacketed bullets having a selection of colours is helpful in identifying what one has available. I can also vouch for the fact that leading is a thing of the past with cast and can cast with almost pure lead, I add 2% powdered tin as it helps the lead fill the mold better. I also gas check them as I can push some quite quickly in both my c/f 22s and my 308. I attach an image of some 225 cast, fwiw I always c bake the powder on bose down in that jig both 224 and 308 sizes, it leaves the nose of the boolit free of coating and I believe makes the boolit act more like a soft point jacketed one, especially when cast out of harder alloy.
