The only air gun I currently own is an old but very good condition BSA Meteor; My brother gave it to me and all it needed was a breech seal to bring it up to spec. I was given a Webley & Scott Tempest air pistol by an American pal and I couldn’t believe how powerful it was, I made a stupid mistake of selling it for £70 to a lad . Wish now that I’d kept it ! Cheers.

Born Hunter 17,775
There’s a lot of my shit don’t stink types in field sports. That aside, I don’t get what the excitement is in using an air rifle that is ballistically a match for a proper rifle. Air rifles have their niche but big game just seems a bit pointless. Most the lads I know who take larger game with one do it purely because they don’t stand a hope of getting granted anything sensible.

Love it or loathe it. there is no alternative for income generation in the areas where this is done, Maybe people who post shite like that above, Could come up with a viable alternative that does not involve the killing of an animal, (even though that said animal will die anyway), These game farms employ local people and fuel the local economy, take that away and all animals for miles will be wiped out for a quick buck in the bush meat and medicine trade. Take that shit with Cecil the male lion a few years ago, He was coming to the end of being the dominant male, The decision was taken to cull him rather than letting another male lion kill him and all the cubs he had sired, I believe $250.000 was paid to cull him, All going back into the business, The World was outraged, A week later a whole pride of lionesses were slaughtered by the Maasai warriors after they killed one of there cows, where was the world outrage? I’m not disagreeing with you really but just wanted to point out that the Cecil nonsense wasn’t a canned hunt. That lion was a free ranging animal. Generally speaking I wouldn’t be in favour of canned hunting and feel that it does more harm than good, to hunting and conservation. Tangential but the topic of fences isn’t straight forward either. A fenced conservancy or ranch doesn’t necessarily stop the animals passing or mean they’re not effectively free. Something that is often incorrectly assumed.

Im not a fan of trophy hunting, it wouldn’t be my cup of tea but I understand the benefits it’s brings and they are massive. f**k them Loons, you can’t reason with nut cases ! He was free ranging within a defined area, the game reserve, The bloke who owns the game farm where Cecil was shot is mates with Steve109 the taxidermist who was on here, They had to place a carboard police patrol car outside his home, The thing is these places are about generating an income that is then passed down through the local economy. without this income and the protection afforded to the animals within the game reserve/farm/whatever they would be wiped out, Safari's alone do not generate enough income to warrant the animals being there. I am no fan but without a viable alternative i can not see another way, Spouting ban this and that is just stupid.
