there were more blacks down me street as a kid then now though the grandma was bombed out must a seen some shit had her out to us as 6 years olds with a voodoo doll stabbing it taking about f***ing us up our arse the lot no one’s old lady went banged on that door lol the only time i saw a window go threw off an apple core when the workmen doing the flat roof pot a tar melting shed be doing a war song and dance around it for half the day while the workmen were gobsmacked lol as she got older she would walk with shit down her take her money out in shop and shit would be on it

first time one shocked me i was about 10 just before secondary me and my pal on a honda 50 went past the school to go on the back field and the black teacher started chasing after us pinned it about 25 mph he was close right across the field lol i’d never seen any one that fast

When I was a kid growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, and were moved out of Central Newcastle to the suburbs during the slum clearances, the demographic was exclusively white working class.

Then, on our new build council estate in the suburbs, we only had two kids at school who were “different”; a half caste girl who’s dad was Jamaican and came over on the Windrush, how he made it this far north was a bit of a mystery; and a Polish lad who’s family came over after the war to work in the coal mines.

Strangely, it was the white Polish kid who was bullied, the half caste girl was seen as somewhat “exotic” !

Now the demographic has changed massively and in some areas the white “ indigenous “ family is in the minority. 
Two pit villages near me appear to have been earmarked for resettlement of sub-Saharan immigrants, who I assume to be Nigerian.

It will never go back to what it was and Blue Mink’s 60’s hit “Melting Pot” seems very prophetic now……
