He has had it tough through one thing and another but he wouldn’t come back for all the tea in China. He knows his kids are better off, he ticks by working the oil sands and doing construction….always busy enough although it’s all relative because rent is expensive where he lives. Spoke to him yesterday on video call where he was showing me the lack of snow in downtown Kelowna…..he was planning a visit back, I told him don’t bother, it will break your heart and I meant it. I won’t be offended by that, it’s a mindset I carried myself once so I understand it mate. I think you have to take into account that you come from communities where tribalism and loyalty to your community is still very much an every day thing and has been at the forefront of your whole life, wether consciously or subconsciously, so you are starting from a different point to say a lad like me from London or anyone from most towns in mainland Britain…..that may be way off the mark but it’s what I think. I come from a community where people stopped giving a f**k about themselves or each other or the place they come from years ago….in fact many of them took the side of the incomers and the enemy’s against lads like me and so you find yourself alone, unwanted, isolated, vilified and derided by people you care about more than they care about themselves. Its all well and good this “fight the good fight” mentality but why the f**k should people keep wasting their life on people like that that ?
