jukel123 7,957
Great player, but Jack was my favourite of the two. I know I can be a repetitive, moaning, boring old fecker but Jack was a socialist, an NUM member and a founding member of the Anti Nazi League along with Brian Clough. They were both ex miners. Jack was into field sports in a big way too. Bobby was the better player by far, but in my opinion Jack was a better bloke, his own man, whereas Bobby was a firm's man and a supporter of Thatcher. Bobby was a great servant for Man U and for England, an inspirational player who played for 90 minutes. My favourite memory of Bobby is slapping the 18 year old Brian Kidd across the face for making a mistake in the penalty area which cost Bobby a goal. He deserved it. Lol. THE STIFFMEISTER 15,706
I always think of Bobby Charlton’s story as that of one completely unique to the uk . an icon in the sport , instantly recognisable. I always like this advert https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fy0PH36YHJQ&pp=ygUVQm9iYnkgY2hhcmxyaW4gYWR2d3J0

Bobby threw a mud caked football at me when I asked him for his autograph and knocked me over 65 years ago. It was horseplay to be fair, but I never got my f****n autograph. Jack I've met shooting and fishing. My mate used to guide him on the shore and gave him accommodation. He used to drink in the same pub as me when shooting and had the same defective prostate as me. So he was often in the next urinal. Jack asked me how long it took me to become a good speycaster ( a difficult form of casting to learn) and he laughed when I replied ' as long as it took you to become a decent footballer.' Jack appreciated just being one of the boys and nobody sucked up to him because of his fame. Good bloke and a brilliant manager. gnasher16 30,046
Sad that shame to hear he seemed like a good person...a lot of ex players said he was the cleanest striker of a football they had ever seen, certainly scored some iconic goals. I think that makes our Geoff Hurst the last of the 66 final side left alive......Come on you Irons !!......yeah bad taste i know my apologies.
ryaldinhio 4,502
A little before my time, being born in 84 but obviously aware of his achievements with England and Manu. Had a minute silence for Bobby on Tuesday night at Doncaster Rovers where I was surprised to hear from the announcer that Bobby actually won the Ballon'dor following World cup in 66?! Dont give them out for free, some player in his time.

I lived in Stoke in the early 70s and used to watch Stoke City regularly . Hurst was a decent striker but he was past his best when he came to Stoke. At West Ham he was a one in two games scorer. At Stoke he was one in three. Greatest of respect to the bloke for his hat trick, but I dont think he could have made the transition to the modern game. I believe Bobby Charlton,Bobby Moore Martin Peters and Gordon Banks would have thrived though. Good to see Hurst is healthy and has still got his marbles at eighty odd.
