IanB 0
Had to get my old lurcher Jack PTS on monday, he had taken a knock a month ago to his knee when lamping a rabbit, he brought it back across two fields one being plough, then jumped a wooden fence dropping it at my feet, I could see he was sore as he came back, he was holding one leg.... a few trips to the vets, antiinflams, antibiotics, numerous xrays at first the vet suspected the dog had jarred his hock, but we later found he'd taken a knock to his knee and developed a lump that was growing and had triggered bone cancer... I had to make the decision to get him PTS, I was totally devastated but it was for the best as the pain was obvious, although he never showed it, he never murmered all his life through the injuries he received whilst working, he just got on with it.. Hes one dog who will never be forgotten.. RIP Jack, you did me proud.. Time stands still for no man or creature, he catches us all sooner or later. Quote Link to post

bolio 51
Every time I hear this kind of bad news it brings back my own memories of loss. These dogs enrich our lives and we can take heart from the knowledge that we have enriched theirs by allowing them to live the hunting life that is denied to so many dogs. Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all! (apologies to Robert W Service) :friends: Quote Link to post
