They really give some heat out. I don't let the Mrs burn them if I'm not home as anything more than a tiny hint of air flow and they overheat the stove so much the thermometer goes into the red and falls off the stove pipe . I do the pest control for a big wood yard and £500's worth is part of his payment. I drive past the yard everyday so it's no hardship doing it and I see em as free.... even though I pay for em in a sense. I'm bringing a few pieces of ash, holly and hawthorn home every time I go up the shoot. Not massive amounts but a few logs. If I do that 3 times a week then I'll get through the winter without worrying about how much I use. I buy 250 kg of smokeless as well and maybe a couple of bags extra if I run out

She will keep log burner for backup, we are only 5 minutes up the road so she wont get cold. I remember your posts fitting your burner plastering came out tidy mate
mel b 2,525
f**k em. I'm a wood slag , I'll do anything for a log . I've also got about a ton of new 18mm plywood to burn . It breaks my heart to burn it , but you can only find so many DIY projects to use it on .
dytkos 17,804
I still hate it around me, there's fallen wood all over the place. When I lived over the road I spent many, many hours harvesting the "free" wood. Where I am now I've got gas heating and the conversion to open fire/log burner would be uneconomical, especially as my collecting/processing/storage situation is inconvenient nowadays Cheers, D. Just core drill a 6”hole through the wall and run a flu up the outside of the house quick and easy probably save what it cost to do in one winter

Greyman 28,662
Little hack for the winter fire users, the old alcohol hand gel is everywhere after covid we have pallet loads here at work, the 70% alcohol one is a great fire lighter couple of squirts in the fire before ignition and away she goes no more firefighters required
