Plummer and his books drew me to 2 things, the first was collie greyhounds and the second was Scotland.  From the moment I'd read all the books I dreamed of a blue mere half cross. But back then I cou

I thought perhaps he was a physics teacher or something and got the title from that.

Could have been mate I was told years ago by a lad from Doncaster who knew Plummer very well that Plummer had got recognition from Mensa and other intellectual bodies. I only met him once at Chatsworth country fair when he was signing books and pulled him about crossing two lurcher to lurchers and said and to this day I still stand by the comment will produce more hardy versatile lurchers than breeding pups out of a track greyhound bitch

Good call,I thought he taught English as he had a love of literature, but you might actually be right.I went to his school once, forest comprehensive I think it was?in Walsall.I was a kid and got the National Express down for believe it or not a rat hunting talk,Hancock was there, and mick mansbridge the shooting news ferreting columnist who a few years later had an armed siege with police.

For me growing up , I loved the books. As boson said took me to a place in the countryside I wanted to be. To meet the rogues and hear there storys and see there dogs. They deffo helped me fall in love with running dogs . Funny thing is and I've told this story before.  An old mate of mine was a good friend of Brian's,. So I ad the opportunity to go and stay with him for a week. He was in Caithness at this point. But wouldn't let me take my beloved pride of joy my 3/4 collie grey up there with me ( which was bought I may add off the back of his books lol ) so me being a stubborn tear away and declined . They say never meet your hero's ! But a part of me would of now if I  could turn back the clock.

A Plummer lurcher Brian gifted to my friend , I had the pleasure to watch work . I good nose on it and a good steady ferreting dog and generally a nice natured mutt.

Also in one of his books he put a pic up of the last place in Scotland were a wolf was killed. Many moons later I was up there on my annual pilgrimage up there rabbiting for a week and took a pic of it. Still in my old photo albums now

I think he wrote using fact ,fiction and fantasy and when all put together created some great reads.

I remember he wrote about Filipino slasher derbies, when I actually went to the world championships in the Araneta in QC I realised he had never actually been to one.
