i’ve never had a lurcher that wasn’t a good barker guard

I've never had a lurcher that was a good guard, probably because they've all been kennelled and trained to be quiet.

Now this girl WAS a good guard;

Profesionally trained by an Indian Army dog handler, no barking, no histrionics, just a stare, a curled lip and a low growl !

Absolutely fine with other dogs, even caught the odd rabbit and worked with the lurchers;

That's it... I'm out of here!!

I'm pretty easy going and tolerant about most things ,but every time I see one of those big fat ugly useless earless bags of shite towing a skinny scruffy trackie wearing waste of space and his tattoo

Here's the common sense approach i.m.o... XL bullies added to the existing DDA. Making it illegal to breed and sell so, in theory no other dogs being added to the existing population. A

Dirty fuckers.....only going on what ive been told but your average house breaker or creeper will hear a noisy dog and think twice,but combined with complicated technology will see them move on to something easier 9 times out of 10.

Yea I agree with you, this fellas house was out in the sticks with his nearest neighbours a 1/2 mile away, maybe a dog with something more about it would of stopped them but he's not the type of lad to keep that kind of dog.

Cops told a mate that a yappy dog and a gravel driveway is good deterrent in a residential area.

I live in the middle of nowhere and I have a couple of yappy dogs and a Winchester SX3……which isn’t much use when you are out but is very reassuring when you are in.

Oddly enough I have a shite mongrel whippet / lab cross here that threw heavily to the running dog, its my little lads dog, and he has absolutely flew at visitors twice when they came too close to me in the yard…..bit embarrassing really because the dog looks so non threatening and stupid it’s just not true but he sure put the shits up those blokes.

He is very, very protective of my little lad if cars or walkers happen to pass.

Strange isn’t it how an absolute article of a dog who ran from a rat (I seen him do it ! Lol) just naturally does this stuff with no training or encouragement.

Ive tended to resign myself to the fact that if someones professional enough to get past my security system then they're probably not here for my valuables anyway and i'll most likely be brown bread before theres time to do anything about it 😂

Tbh Ive never really got the whole protection dog thing unless you're doing security or doing some kind of competetive sport as if I thought I really needed protecting from someone that scary I wouldnt want to relying on a dog.Some people might find that weird as I own a bandog and I've done some aspects of what you could call protection training.But I only took certain aspects that I felt neccesary to build a well rounded confident dog which would guard my place and keep my spaniels safe as spaniels were disappearing left right and centre at the time.Contary to what a lot of people believe just buying a guardian breed doesnt automatically mean you'll end up with a good guard dog without some conditiong and confidence building in certain scenario's.I also spent a hell of a lot more time making sure she was well socialised,100%obedience,100%with any animal I told her was not on the menu.Thats where so many idiots go wrong.They wanna do all the biting stuff but dont wanna put in all the other hard work and time that should go with it.

Yep good sensible points.....whats the difference purely in breeds that make up a Bandog and these Xl Bully things please mate ?

Trouble is mate so many things get called a bandog these days when they're nothing more than a load of breeds chucked together but the origional bandogs being produced were generally a traditional.mastiff breed, normally English or Neopolitan crossed with a Game bred bulldog.Not sure on the XL bullies exactly as Ive never had any interest as I could see what they were and what way they were gunna go when I first saw them cropping up 7 or 8 years ago but I believe theres pitbull and AB in them but the same as a lot of what people are calling bandogs now it was done with not a lot of thought other than looks or colour .

I do remember a few bulldog chaps getting into Bandogs in the late 90's and never really heard of attacks like we're seeing with these XL's i wonder if thats because they were in the hands of proper dog people or the fact they were made up of useful purpose bred dogs ?......these XL's sound like a poor mans Bandog if thats the case.....like anything else the death of any bull breed will usually be a combination of ego and money.

Isn't that the truth and can be applied to most things in life.

I honestly believe that we will eventually see more attacks by so called bandogs since in the last few years they have started to become more haphazardly bred with stupid things like colour and looks in mind rather than temperament and solid nerve.And I believe years ago it was a comination of both.They were being bred and home with sensible enthusiasts out of purpose bred dogs selected with important traits in mind.Some people commenting on this thread dont seem to realise that because a dog can guard or have drive it doesnt mean they've got to be a mindless idiot that just wants to attack everything.

I've never had a lurcher that a stranger couldn't of opened the kennels and put a lead on and taken with them.
