The more you do with them as an owner the more you get back, takes a lot of effort on the owners behalf to make an experienced dog.

Not in this case sadly, The owner was a complete wanker and the dogs life ended because of it,

He's around 1/8th Greyhound ;

Hes retired now, but I've seen him destroy pedigree whippets over any distance, trapping faster, early pace, finishing, the ped simply can't live in a race with a decent non-ped, of course they shouldn't when non-peds are dogs that are essentially bred down whippet/greys.

Something i have never understood is why not just call them whippet/greys instead of non ped whippets, I can remember seeing some Barrow whippets years ago, Looked much the same as that dog in your picture.

I think they were used to shrink the grey frame down in the original breeding plus terrier blood which explains the head shape being different to a grey ?

I’ve always thought they should just be called “race dogs”, but they were around before the whippet got pedigree status and were always known as whippets, wether they had terrier, collie, whatever, in them.

The pedigrees are descendants of the same dogs but went down the KC route.

As my old handicapping mentor told me “if they measure in, if they weigh in, they’re whippets “ !

No disagreement with me, I'm a fan of both the ped and the non-ped, and I'd have another of either in a heartbeat.

If it were for racing and working, I'd go for a non-ped.

If it were for working only, I'd maybe go for a ped.

Just my opinion and personal preferences.

My pup will make me happy perhaps not other people but hey that's too bad.

Not after a world beater just a little well trained night and day rabbit dog to knock about with.

There's no better dog in my opinion around a rabbit hole when ferreting than a whippet. Lamping, its horses for courses and depends on the type of land your dogs are running on, All you can do is attempt to improve on the limitations your dog has with breeding, Not easy as genetics are not black and white and i hope they never will be Lol
