Pure Whippets are no where near as fast pound for pound as non ped, but quite a few Pedigree racing whippets now have some non ped blood in them.

Correct . In fact the WCRA, the body for pedigree whippet racing, started DNA testing some years ago , as some unscrupulous owners were adding non-ped whippet and greyhound to their pedigree racers to gain an unfair advantage.

I don’t know how prevalent it is now, but it’s very frowned upon in the pedigree whippet scene.

Cheers.

With regards to the question of whether the sire or dam has most influence on the litter: I remember reading several times about people feeling that the dam has the most influence simply because of the fact that she's raised them

it's not just food that comes from mothers milk so I would say the bitch would have the most influence

I don't know if it's just coincidence but all the best lurchers I've seen that have had a greyhound as the sire or dam the best ones have been when the sire was the greyhound.

Om sure I was told or read some where that when using collie blood the greyhound should always be the sire.

It may have been Lilias Rider Haggard  in his book, when describing Smithfield breeding.

That old book set the bar for all others that followed imo.

It's a dog I have been contemplating getting since I had my old lurcher put to sleep even though non peds can be cracking dogs my choice would be a ped tbh I know two people near me who have them for pets and they paid a substantial amount for them there hunting instinct once in the woods is full on though one of them a blue dog seems to have a slight skin condition that the lad takes him to the vets every month for a jab for it. My mate has a small whippet type lurcher he bred himself a mix of whippet Bedlington and springer spaniel that has stamina and nose and a natural retrieving ability that if he put a ped to it I might be tempted in one.

Have one here that's just the kids pet so doesn't get worked, she's out of working racing stuff and is a keen little bitch that's lifted a handful of rabbits while out on walks and keeps the garden free from cats. Brilliant little dogs to have about the place.
