Is there any definitive proof of this ? I’m not disagreeing with you, but it seems in thoroughbred horse breeding the stud seems to influence the breeding more than the mare.

Also with greyhounds, it appears that the stud has more influence than the brood bitch.

I honestly don’t know, I simply try to get a pup from the best available breeding, dog and bitch, as possible.

Cheers.

No definitive proof mate, only what i have witnessed in the litters i have bred myself over the years, I kept all of the pups until they were around twelve weeks old before i made a decision on the one i was going to keep. In this time i can honestly say i saw more of the bitches traits in the pups than the dog used, That's not to say that any old dog would do though Lol.

How did that work out for you tatsblisters, did you get what you were looking for ?

She was a good honest bitch that could snatch rabbits bolting frome cover and could sit behind an hare till the time was right her prey drive was through the roof and she had a few injuries and brocken toes on the stoney ground she ran on one of the reasons I never bred from her.

Thanks for that I'm getting a better understanding  of bitza breeding seems like these truly special dogs that appear with the right owners really are like winning the lottery.

Down side to owning such a dog is that all dogs after never measure up, I suppose

Depends what you mean by measure up, I have had dogs that excel at one or two things but are at best average in other areas. For me it was always about getting a true allrounder, Something that i have to admit now is an impossibility.   But again that would depend on the standards the owner accepted in each discipline.

always thought it was 50-50 myself. Read article recently were Mike brown wrote about Sooty sam, he said if you put him to rubbish you ended up with rubbish. there was only 4 bitches he went to that consistently threw good stuff. so you have a good point 👍

Not a point just my opinion and personal experience,

Interesting subject, have to say I agree with Paulus from what I’ve seen myself the bitch has more influence. I’d take a pup out of a good bitch & and average dog, but I wouldn’t take a pup if it was the other way round. That being said I’ve known very few litters where dog & bitch were both fully tested and top of their game
