Cracking little topic this really enjoyed it......do Whippet racing clubs still exist anywhere in England other than up north ?

If you go on Facebook there are plenty of whippet racing groups advertising events and   clubs other than up north mate including non ped racing clubs that you can join . What I mean is join the Facebook groups if your interested.

Could it be that that 1/8th could land in the tail in one pup then the heart of another but physically the litter all look the same.

But the pup with the 1/8th thrown to the heart out performs its siblings in the field.

Or am I going the wrong way ?

How siblings perform in the field is a mixture of how the mix in the litter throws and the ability of the owner to train and put the right amount of stuff in front of the pup. A dog taken out once a week will never be as good as a dog worked 7 days a week. Another thing to consider is, in my opinion again, the bitch`s breeding will influence the litter more than the sire.

Thanks for that I'm getting a better understanding  of bitza breeding seems like these truly special dogs that appear with the right owners really are like winning the lottery.

Down side to owning such a dog is that all dogs after never measure up, I suppose

always thought it was 50-50 myself. Read article recently were Mike brown wrote about Sooty sam, he said if you put him to rubbish you ended up with rubbish. there was only 4 bitches he went to that consistently threw good stuff. so you have a good point 👍

Is there any definitive proof of this ? I’m not disagreeing with you, but it seems in thoroughbred horse breeding the stud seems to influence the breeding more than the mare.

Also with greyhounds, it appears that the stud has more influence than the brood bitch.

I honestly don’t know, I simply try to get a pup from the best available breeding, dog and bitch, as possible.

Cheers.

When breeding a beddy or bull to a whippet then bred out just using whippets so that looks wise it's a whippet do any beddy or bull traits remain, as in better stamina endurance etc ?

The small whippet types that T Mcphee had up in Caithness years ago and a few ended up with lad's in Rotherham were supposedly bred with Bedlington in them the one I saw was stamina packed and recovered really well. My last decent hare killing dog was bred down from one put to a lurcher to lurcher then bred to a dog called the beast from Lancashire.
