Wolfdog91 6,840
Anyone happen to have done or seen on of these done at a wedding ? Apparently it's Celtic origins but it became common in Scotland and Ireland. The Gf wants to to it as part as our wedding.
jukel123 7,957
Isn't that cultural appropriation? I'm only winding you up WD. There's a school of whacko thought this side of the pond that cultures should stick to their own traditions and not borrow others' traditions. So, for example any white person who chooses to wear their hair in dreadlocks is criticised for ' cultural appropriation'. Similarly, any black person straightening their hair is ridiculed for the same crime. Its nuts but some get very animated about it. chartpolski 22,942
Isn’t “hand fastening” just an ancient precursor to exchanging rings at a wedding ceremony ? To show you are now “joined together in wedlock ? There used to be another practice, where the man would tie one of his shoes on top of the woman’s head to show she was his property and under his foot ! Good luck with that one ! Vestiges of that can still be seen with the little, silver shoes that are still sometimes seen on wedding cakes. Cheers.
jukel123 7,957
Women begin marriage meek and mild. But as every year goes by they gain more power and become vicious dictators. Trust me I know. Don't do it mate, that ring gives them an awful power trip. Keep the ring in your pocket and keep her in her place.

Arry 21,222
My lad and his now wife did it out side in a field out side a summer house sort of thing with some lady doing the ceremony bit pagan like, still very nice. its what they wanted they live in a thatched cottage on the side of Dartmoor with farm building around. Also the rings were past around for every body to make a wish on the rings had long ribbons on incase they got dropped I suppose. Reception was in a barn a Cornish band "Flats and Sharps" with pig roast people could wear what ever they wanted. Big bonfire beers in a big tub of ice very laid back the most relaxed wedding I've ever been to. Trestle tables all around full of food that every body brought chairs and sofas dotted around few herbs being smoked lol. To top it all the law turned up thought was a rave they went away happy. Cheers Arry 2
