England Women?

Recommended Posts

I was  aimlessly browsing YouTube last week and came across the infamous 70s Leeds United team. They were, how can I put this, a shower of dirty, horrible b*****ds.

I watched goalie Gary Sprake punch a player full on the chin, Johnny Giles fell kevin Keegan with a terrific hook and Jack Charlton poleaxe an opposition player for daring to tackle him. Not one was sent off. The commentators took the view that hey, its a man's contact sport, shit happens. And that's not mentioning Billy Bremner and bite yer legs Norman Hunter.

Although they were a skilled bunch of horrible assassins,  I think I would almost, but not quite, prefer that style of football to the one we have now. Today's game has no shame. Its diabolical compared to old first division. VAR has been a disaster, I can't understand the new offside rule and nearly all players are encouraged to be whining snowflakes and get opposition players sent off or booked.

The game is infinitely more skillful  and faster than before, especially on  todays  billiard table pitches, but it's too girly, chess-like and cynical for me.

Junior football upto age about 10 can easily be mixed because there is no real physical difference.

After that you will start to see the physical differences start to show.

Anyone watching womens football and comparing it to the elite mens game is being a tit, you watch them (like you watch non league) for completely different reasons.

If you want all the testosterone at a 100 mph and the ability to go with it of elite mens football then watch that.

If you want to watch technically good football doing all the right things by the book and in the right shapes etc etc then watch elite womens football.

Mens football is moving way too fast for your average “I want to be entertained” spectator to even see these things.

If you want to understand how UEFA coaching works and what they are doing, then watch womens…..most games are what you will see on any elite level training ground (mens or womens) from academy to first team.

Same as if you go non league, you don’t go to see the best in the world….you go because you are a foot from the grass, can have a fag and a bovril, know £10 means the world to the club and see some good honest decent players going at it.

These things are different animals….treat them as such !

And by the way, Netball…..I’d use Netball as a pass move practice every day of the week for any team at any level ! You won’t see better or faster !

give me football pre 2000 all day long its boring now

You won’t see that anymore, rule changes to promote less opposition to attacking play…..it is part of the Americanisation of football into the “top flight family entertainment experience” (along with all the lucrative merchandising opportunities) that most fans know and Love.

In fairness, it got rid of the donkeys like Jones which is a good thing imho but most forwards and mid fielders  now days couldn’t have played prior to 2003 !

Spain totally deserved to win today, don't follow football myself and i didn't know until this morning when watching the build up to kick off about all the problems with the Spain manager and his players, where 15 of them were at home.

The ones who stepped into their boots were fantastic i thought.

You are right when you say the tournament is being bigged up by the media.  But there's not a lot to cheer us up in the UK at the minute.

Lighten up mate. Society changes all the time. Tune in Sunday at 11a.m. Your country needs you.

Its nothing to do with lightening up if women want to play football great, but to force it on society like they are doing is simple political brainwashing that i/we shouldnt be falling for.

My daughters 11 now and played football since she was around 5 years old . Up until a season ago she was the only girl in a boys team , she grew up with all the boys and they didn't care one bit that they had a girl playing with them . She's always been a decent player and at the start of her playing football she was on par with the rest of the boys then after a few years the boys level just flew up . She retained a position in the team because she's a tough little girl who gets stuck in and has no fear of playing against boys . I have to say those years playing with the boys team were awesome . From the coach to players she got zero discrimination because of her gender and they were a really good group of lads but the last year or two you could tell the boys were just better , more tenacious , better skill. We took her to a trial for the county team beggining of last year and she got in and at the trials the coaches asked if she wanted to play for a all girls team so after asking her she left her team and joined in with all girls football .

Now I'm a big advocate for the accessibility of girls football to anyone who wants to play it but the difference in quality is night and day . Sadly sometimes it's even comical . One thing that sticks in my mind and the mind of my boy who was watching with me was the ball was running out towards touch and 2 girls from opposite teams were charging after it from opposite directions and as the both got to it they hesitated expecting contact and the ball ran out of play . Any junior boys game and those two boys are smashing into eachother going for that ball  .

She's gone from being a small part of the boys team to being a big part of a girls team which for her is the best thing in the world . She's on the ball all the time , she's bashing girls left right and centre and she's loving her football.  If she was still I'm boys football she would just be a spare part and might have jacked it in

Womens football has a place in the world and its nice that the world cup is on TV but even my daughter whose world is football has only watched one game . She will sit and watch the mens Premier league any time she can but she's not interested in watching women's football because its got nothing on mens football

If womens football is to become a big thing in this world it needs to be on merit . And sadly the men will watch mens football and the women just aren't interested in football
