The netball world cup was on BBC at the beginning of the month! England were beaten in the final by the aussies. I can't claim to have watched it though. I think women's football will grow,in fact the stats prove this. They are not as good as the men, but the fact that they make more mistakes adds to the spectacle imo. Also, the women's game doesn't seem to feature time wasting, diving and screaming in agony as soon as they are tackled. Not yet anyway. I used to be dead against women's boxing at first, the same as women's football, but now I think fair play to them. They want to participate in these sports, so let them get on with it... without irrelevant old geezers like me shaking their heads. I think Joe Public is beginning to get pissed off with ultra _professionalism. Many of my old school mates, all in their 70s,have now deserted our boyhood club Man U and watch Salford City instead. Its our home town club. I' ll be joining them for a couple of games this season, I think I will enjoy it more than a big business, Man U game. Who knows we might enjoy a pie, a bovril, and a scrap with visiting supporters? Lol. Ordinary football fans are becoming alienated by often foreign mega_ rich owners and the 'prawn sandwich brigade'. Its the same with boxing. I would rather watch a pair of amateur boxers have an honest tear up than watch Fury in yet another money making f****n exhibition, or Joshua copying Audrey Harrison's scared _to _death style of boxing. To try and pretend that womens netball is being sold to us with the same political intensity that womens football and womens rights in general is would just be silly and you know it.....yes we are all sick of certain aspects regards mens elite level football but for me the only people buying into this total hijacking of the game in order to score political points are the utterly blind/naive or the people its all aimed at,the liberal leftie luvvies. Regards boxing ive said many times id rather be around small hall pro shows than the big events all day long and actually lose interest in many local fighters once they reach the highest end of the sport, mainly for the reasons you mention.
jukel123 8,190
You are right when you say the tournament is being bigged up by the media. But there's not a lot to cheer us up in the UK at the minute. Lighten up mate. Society changes all the time. Tune in Sunday at 11a.m. Your country needs you.
Welsh_red 4,649
My daughters 11 now and played football since she was around 5 years old . Up until a season ago she was the only girl in a boys team , she grew up with all the boys and they didn't care one bit that they had a girl playing with them . She's always been a decent player and at the start of her playing football she was on par with the rest of the boys then after a few years the boys level just flew up . She retained a position in the team because she's a tough little girl who gets stuck in and has no fear of playing against boys . I have to say those years playing with the boys team were awesome . From the coach to players she got zero discrimination because of her gender and they were a really good group of lads but the last year or two you could tell the boys were just better , more tenacious , better skill. We took her to a trial for the county team beggining of last year and she got in and at the trials the coaches asked if she wanted to play for a all girls team so after asking her she left her team and joined in with all girls football . Now I'm a big advocate for the accessibility of girls football to anyone who wants to play it but the difference in quality is night and day . Sadly sometimes it's even comical . One thing that sticks in my mind and the mind of my boy who was watching with me was the ball was running out towards touch and 2 girls from opposite teams were charging after it from opposite directions and as the both got to it they hesitated expecting contact and the ball ran out of play . Any junior boys game and those two boys are smashing into eachother going for that ball . She's gone from being a small part of the boys team to being a big part of a girls team which for her is the best thing in the world . She's on the ball all the time , she's bashing girls left right and centre and she's loving her football. If she was still I'm boys football she would just be a spare part and might have jacked it in Womens football has a place in the world and its nice that the world cup is on TV but even my daughter whose world is football has only watched one game . She will sit and watch the mens Premier league any time she can but she's not interested in watching women's football because its got nothing on mens football If womens football is to become a big thing in this world it needs to be on merit . And sadly the men will watch mens football and the women just aren't interested in football Bill burr said it best
chartpolski 23,858
They tried the same with womens darts; the PDC bigged it up with new tournaments and better prize money and even gave a few women “wild cards “ into the mens competitions. Problem is there’s only two or three women in the world that could possibly get past the first round of any decent competition, and there just isn’t any audience for televised womens games. Its the same with snooker, I watch darts and snooker to see the very best in the world, same with football. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with womens sports, but it’s ridiculous to try and equate them with mens sports. Cheers.

eastcoast 4,138
I have tried to watch women's football, particularly England matches, but find it difficult to retain interest for a full 90 minutes. But I am a strong believer in people being allowed to live their lives and do what they want free from prejudice and discrimination as long they aren't hurting anyone. My only concern is the kick off time for women's football matches. Evening games are fine but 3 or 4 pm matches gets me wondering if there is a man somewhere, all alone, getting hungrier and hungrier because there is no one at home to make his tea.
jukel123 8,190
I've just been reading an article demanding that women footballers and managers are paid the same as the men. I've read similar articles suggesting women tennis players and boxers should have pay parity too. That's just daft. If women could put the same number of fans on seats or subscribe to ppv as men, then fine, they would deserve the same. Unfortunately, only a small proportion of sports fans are prepared to pay to watch women's sport. That's the way the world works. I can't believe there are so many people who don't understand that principle.

I can't remember the figures exactly but if you take the money mens football generates and working against what players earn you get a percentage It turns out percent wise women earn far more than the men do percentage wise I've butchered explaining that but you get the jist

fireman 10,919
The difference between pro mens footballers and womens footballers is one lot has a fanny and one lot are big fecking fannies, can't be doing with the way the men behave more like women than the women do so don't really watch footy any more.... 1
