Wolfdog91 7,021
Off on a new lil adventure for the next 14 days till I'm back on my usual boat. Much smaller only running two barges like two sets of hard rigging and we're moving much faster. These canals and locks are tiny compared to what I'm used to . Anyhow the crew is super cool and the captain actually talks to me ( mine about won't even look at you unless you did something he don't like ,like have the trash can touching the wall, or you a mate or higher) so this should be pretty enjoyable. Gonna have to get used to this new shift though. I'm used to working 6x6 but we work 12's here... Might have to take some melatonin or something gotten used to my naps, don't know if I can actually sleep for 10hr or so straight now Anyhow So so far this boats pretty dang nice ...lil tiny but nice. Been pretty enjoyable so far. All the guys are super nice , been getting taught alot too. Went from new Orleans to pascag.....the name on the map I can English lol Paused two pressure barges up and into this ship yard dock type thing and we've been here ever since. Getting to see some cool stuff up close like these oils rigs . The jack up one is probably my favorite lil pice of engineering 16
mackem 26,439
Good pics, pity you couldn’t fish under those rigs when they are offshore, melatonin helps your circadian rhythms I use it sometimes for jet-lag,certainly helps, keep the pics coming.
Wolfdog91 7,021
The mate here is a really cool guy too. Talks a ton and has been showing me all sorts of stuff. Said I'm a little high strung and should relax a little Changed filers and oil on the engines . And honestly I do enjoy mechanic work at times and yesterday was a prime example. 105° engine room sucked a lil but we too plenty of breaks and it was honestly fun. But today's painting..don't think I'm doing too bad
Wolfdog91 7,021
Lotta civilian craft around here too Actually [BANNED TEXT] we first came in the other morning we had a little bitty shrimping boat ( and I mean tiny , I don't know they can that small, like mabye 20' looks like a v hull John boat with out riggers) just doing donuts in the middle of the channel right here. Wish I had my phone because it was getting attacked by like 5 dolphins and a flock of seagulls As far as food the captain actually does most of the cooking though he was super happy when I told him I'd be happy to cook when I want busy. Was even more happy when I side I can bake half decent lol. And gotta say I think there always one guy in a boat who like baked good because I used to bananas they where gonna throw out to make some banana bread muffins to avoid waste and there where only three left when I came back down for my shift....and there was only one guy down stairs grin he just looked at me and side " we need to keep you ! " Will say though...I'm kinda addicted to a left over breakfast sandwich with a good over easy runny egg nowadays used to think a runny egg was the grossest thing ever now look at me. On my sandwiches and in my noodles lol
Wolfdog91 7,021
And heres my room for those curious. It's about 1/4 the size of the one on my other boat so it was a little difficult To get my bag in here but it's cozy. Gotta share a toilet and shower with the guy in the other room but it's a pretty simple arrangement. Lock his door while you in and make it quick and he does the same. And you both keep it clean. No piss stained toilet seats and stuff So this is a cool little deal. The tankerman I'm working with said it's called a booster engine. Basically gets attached to the front of a barge and helps move it into place. Kind alike a micro tow boat I guess.
