I had a couple of years out of keeping animals to reset and re-evaluate, just went and got 2 new ram lambs. Ill fetch them on, keep the best and sell the other. Now to find a few ewes to go with whatever one I keep, not too many only a few. Pigs next and cattle (dairy bulls for veal) around spring when they have been born. All coming on well, will try get some pics tomorrow. Pigs, chickens and turkeys all growing well. The 2 red bourbon chicks in shed are going in the bird run tomorrow to free the brooder up for the next chicks. However only 4 of them were fertile and not sure if they will hatch....Will find out in next couple days. I'm considering sheep in spring. Mate of mine keeps em and said he will sort me out with a couple but I'm not sure yet. My next projects will be building nesting boxes for chicken shed and also a hillbilly plucker ready for Xmas turkeys!

ryaldinhio 4,557
Moved the 2 turkey chicks out the brooder into shed. Chickens are as welcoming as usual so see how they go on. Could wake up to two dead uns tomorrow! The Norfolk bronze and black have caught up with the hens size wise and starting to over take em. The chickens are about 13week, the bronze/blacks about 10week, the 2 bourbons are 6 week. Pigs growing on well too. 12
ryaldinhio 4,557
One out of the 4 eggs hatched this morning, another one pipping, other two no movement so doubt they will hatch.
chartpolski 23,475
I had an almost perfect brood this year. I put 8 black leghorn x Bovan goldline eggs and 2 Irish Hennie game fowl eggs under my clucker and she hatched all bar one. I couldn’t have wished for a better mix , the hennies were both hens, and they were to go in with the pair I’ve got but sadly one disappeared, probably taken by a rat ! The layers were two cocks an five hens, perfect as I’m giving a trio to a pal and keep a cock and three hens myself. Cheers.
