Seems to be a big up take for threads on off grid living or self sustainability so thought I would stick it in here lads because the 'living of land and game cooking' section doesn't get much traffic

You're winning at life mate . I'm very envious 👍.

Trying our best thanks. One thing we have learned/noticed is that whilst it is an effor, it isn't a MASSIVE effort. It's actually pretty easy. But no one ever tells you it's easy! The hardest part is the red tape and paperwork etc they try and get you with. Just registered my hens today as that is now mandatory from October 1st. Honestly the vegs take more input and effort than the animals so if you can keep a veg plot I guarantee you have the ability to keep pigs/chickens.

I'd love to try it. I think I could do the hard graft , but red tape makes my blood run cold .

You're kicking the arse out of it . Absolutely top marks mate👍.

I didn't ask for weights or owt on my last, I just took em in. Mabye I should, I'm still learning!

Do you keep boars for meat? I was put off by someone, a relative of a neighbour, who keeps pigs. Said...... "if you take one piece of advice don't have boars, nothing worse than having 3-4months of keeping a pig for it to give you a freezer full of meat that tastes like piss"

It's always put me off, I always ask for gilts when I'm looking.

Boar taint is horrible but it’s a lottery, sometimes they are alright but when they ain’t it’s a flavour on the back of your throat never to be forgotten !

Those pigs are tidy, Oxford Sandy Blacks or some derivative mate ?
I had Tamworth x GOS and they looked very similar as well.
