I believe he had a huge Siberian Tiger called Balkash or something like that, a truly impressive animal, I think it went on to kill it's keeper. Wasn't lord lucan rumoured to have been fed to Aspinalls tigers at one time?

Some zoos offer you a list, you want to go in with tiger cubs, small tigers, medium tiger, large tiger, huge tiger.I think Charts put a photo up of him or his wife with one? They are a big tourist attraction. Didn't joe exotic of tiger king infamy make something like $250k in a few years offering tiger-cub photography taking snaps of people holding his cubs?

It's bittersweet for me, do they really have the cats interests at heart, i very much doubt it, but the revenue they bring for these people, it's easy to dictate about morals, we don't live in their shoes.

Plus zoos keep endangered species alive. I still find zoos a top day out. Great for kids and adults. Also they are becoming more responsible and animal friendly all the time. There's all sorts there mate,i always like wandering round Bangkok looking in the canals for big monitor lizards, seen a few snakes as well. I remember the animal market , I was with an English lad who bought a monkey. It ended up behind one of the bars on beach road in Pattaya. Cheers.

The tiger temple used to promote itself as a cat sanctuary, all about the tigers welfare etc, closed down after authorities found tigers in freezers and evidence of tigers being bred for sale etc. 6 minutes ago, jukel123 said: Plus zoos keep endangered species alive. Worst zoos I ever went to were Cairo and Manila, not fun for the animals at all. 3 minutes ago, jukel123 said: I remember when I was about 15, I wrote to Gerald Durrell and asked him for a job in his zoo. It even had a concrete bed and pillow. It just lay there with one arm propping his head up. It was doing life in solitary for no crime. I' ll never forget the sadness and resignation in its eyes. If I could see it was out of order ss a kid why couldn't the zoo owners? Coin I guess.

I read that and went to Corfu on the strength of that book. Been back many times. There's areas in Corfu which have not changed since his day. But not many.
