Back in the day,...I bred several litters of nondescript , roustabout working lurchers... We used a local herding dog which his owners labelled,... a Blue Shag.... I watched the dog working both sheep and cattle, and I liked his style... So, I put him across my honest old mouching/coursing bitch,...Mercedes Every resulting litter produced amazing looking pups,..and they generally came out extremely heavy coated, blues or Wheaten in colour. Several lads asked to buy them,.but I never sold any,...I just gifted them to folk who I believed would give them a good life..... Grand dogs, great days.... Proper Quote Link to post

I’d rather a pup went to someone like that than most dog men, better than seeing them passed about 10 Quote Link to post

I might be looking into getting another lurcher myself at a later date and it will be more of a pet than an out and out full on hunting dog and looking at some of these types on the Facebook pages I might be tempted on one of these types. 1 Quote Link to post

Spot on if you’re just doing a bit of mooching, rabbiting etc an obedient dog that can catch the odd thing here & there is all you need. Easy for a lot to get carried away and think they need a specialist dog when they don’t. Best of luck if you do decide to go for one & would be nice to hear how it turns out. Someone did a DNA test on a pup recently which was interesting and Jeff seemed worked up not sure how reliable the tests are but there was husky, poodle, Labrador, others that I can't mind, possibly bull? Can't see it now Have you seen his brother? does he actually exist? 1 Quote Link to post

jeemes 4,445
I had a dog years ago out of a little Burrel bitch to a Saluki x dog named Chance' and that dog was a little belter, on Fox, Hare, Deer and rabbits. He had thrown more to the Saluki tbh and he had a lot of wind when properly fit (45lb) but I dont think the rest of the litter made anything. Quote Link to post
