Welsh_red 4,644
Lived in a house all my life but as I'm getting on and getting older I'd love to buy some woodland and build a cabin in there to live. I've had a look online at the rules etc and it seems almost impossible. You can have a cabin. If its only used occasionally (up to 28 days) a year . I know theirs no real way of them checking but I'm wondering if anybody knows anybody who has moved into a cabin or has any knowledge on it

mel b 2,402
The only real ( legal) way to live in a house in the woods , is to buy a house that's already in woodland, or , buy a house with a few acres around it , and plant your own woodland, and wait. You can try to just buy a piece of woodland, then build your cabin and hope for the best , but , you can't make it a proper address ( with post code , services etc) . Some people just build something to live in , and as long as you get on with your neighbours, they probably wouldn't report you to the council , but , as soon as the council do get to hear about you , then you may as well just move. Theirs quite a lot of information on the Internet if you've got time to wade through it all.

dodger 2,765
I'd also say storage container or horse box unless you have a big budget either way sounds like a plan..
mel b 2,402
Another way around things ( if you're happy with a mobile home ) , is buy several small plots of woodland , and move from plot to plot.

low plains drifter 10,481
There's a good few that I know that have the plots of woodland who travel in camper vans, and stay in them, but also have their cabins
