Borr 6,161
Hey guys, looking to get my eldest a quiver tip, my first proper rod was a John Wilson Avon rod which served me well for years, I'm looking for a maybe 8/10' quiver that can handle carp and silver for my boy , any pointers? 1 Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
I’d be tempted by one of the multi tip rods mate .Either a through or top action .Tips interchangeable according to target species .Better to er on bigger side with carp .Seen a few tip rods snap off on the bite with carp of 15 plus ..They never learn on Tockenham lake targeting bream on the method feeder with corn .Sooner or later a carp will take it and wallop, lol. 1 Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
They’ve banned whips in a few places especially the commercials here .Fishing for silvers one minute and water skiing with a 20 the next .Most kids just let go of it . 1 Quote Link to post

Never had a tip break on the bite, i have landed carp well over 20lb on a 1 1/2 oz tip and 6lb line with a 4lb hook length. If you use a QD reel like the TDR and have the drag backed off even the most vicious bite is not a problem, another tip is to leave your front rod rest loose so it can spin on the take. I have bust tips in strong winds whilst using braid with tip wrap and when the line gets covered in willow fluff but never on a take. Quote Link to post

Most lads clip up when bream fishing mate .Most use braid here now .Either the line has to give or the rod tip .Seen it 3 times this season . Quote Link to post

Even if you clip up, which i do, you usually get a few turns on the reel whilst sinking the line. Quote Link to post

Borr 6,161
Well a wet couple of hours but he christened the rod with a nice skimmer , so he was chuffed, wife caught a dozen roach and perch with my other lad on the whip. 4 1 Quote Link to post
