red tail

Looking at taking pheasant, hare, rabbit and pigeons do you think a red tail would take all these or is another bird better to get ie goshawk

Red tail will do all that and more mate .Not quite so full on as a gos but impressive drive all the same .

Might have to forget pigeons in a fair chase mate or mug them out a car window .Job for a falcon Id say .

If I were you I would get out with a few people and see some different species in action. People don't seem to realise how it works with a hawk. A redtail needs to be worked very hard to get the fitness to do any good. By nature they are a buzzard so lazy and will always try to take the easy option. A lot of people get this illusion of walking out into a field with a bird of prey and spotting game in the distance, unleashing the beast and watching a thrilling spectacle as their bird takes down its prey after a spectacular flight.

In reality they buy a bird it doesn't happen because of all the variables that are against you, i.e the bird, weather, game, fitness, time and permission to fly on. They get disappointed and another unfortunate hawk for sale on bird trader. The best thing that you can do is contact some local falconers and try getting a few days out so that you can see whats involved. Not trying to tell you what to do mate just trying to give you some truthful guidance!

Hard to give a definitive answer, Yes a gos would do all you ask But i honestly believe if you put the time into a redtail "most don't" Then in my opinion they can also do what you ask. Most people who get Redtails tend to think of them as being like Harris hawks and treat them the same, A Redtail entered when properly fit and flown daily is a splendid bird. Flown at weekends and unfit it will become a sulky, aggressive, uninterested, nightmare to own sitting in a tree looking at you for hours.

Red tail no mater how fit isn't going be taking phesants in fair flight or pigeon, pigeons are a pain in the arse anyway,they will take them from following on , from soaring , and off the fist if you kick them up right under your feet but that's it , Goss are the way to go for feather ,

i had  male red tail flown all the time mint ,but if he did not get out all the time was a nightmate sat and watched the world go bye
