Well it went well a very professional service from Serenity vet services from Armthorpe in Doncaster the woman who administered the injection was very professional and the old dog never flinched wile

I know it's not so easy for others but it ain't about how other folk feel it's between you and your dog and the right thing to do, it's a private walk(other don't need to know the details) just two of

Buried him in the garden and planted an apple tree. Variety called Red Devil.....because he was pretty close to a devil! Definitely a character and won't be forgotten.

22rf. cheap and 100% effective. I know it may cause offense but its far less stress full for thee dog than even the home vet visit.

I totally agree mate it's only pressure from the wife kid's and grandkids as that would be another alternative and would have been the only outcome years ago.

Each to their own ,ball pein hammer does the job ,makes you look tougher down the pub ,it's only a dog ,if you think a lot of it ,give it a decent ending

Don't be confused ,just saying it's easy to come out with  ,"just nut it " if it's a dog that's served you well ,a decent ending is only fitting ! I can think of more relatives that need the .410 and kicked into a shallow grave ,they dug themselves!

My old lurcher is on her last legs and i dont want to put her through the trauma of taking her to the vets which she has not been for year's. Has anyone else used these people that provide this service and what was the procedure.

The hard road mate. It’s not easy and it will stay with you. So decide if you can have that in your mind mate.

What's a decent ending ?

A dog that's never been to the vets , gets took to the vets to be injected.. by someone who it's never met .

Or taking it out for a final walk and doing it yourself while the dogs looking down the field happy as can be being out doing what it loves ..

I know which one I'd choose if it was me .

Must be 10-12 years ago now a stables I worked with asked me to deal with their stable cat, it was ancient and seriously infirm, about 21 years old I seem to recall, I politely declined.

Actually, that does seem rather odd now I think about it, I'm on the Police Humane Animal Dispatch team and think nothing about dealing with roadside incidents.

I've also dealt with 2 ganders at a farmers request as they were giving the girls a hard time, and very recently a chicken at a country house estate that was terminally ill.

And yes, a .22lr is perfectly adequate!

:hmm:

I once watched my misses old dog fight the PTS jab,she screamed for ages until she died and no dog i ever own will be put through that again,it breaks my heart every time but i know it's quick and painless and it's a 22 everytime with every dog....
