Malt 379
There's been a few threads on ticks, but I'm not sure how you go about getting to the little f**ker if it's right in the ear. I've got tick pickers I got from the vet, but I could see it being a problem trying to get it in a ferts ear though. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
I used it with success on tiny ones round a ferrets ears Quote Link to post
Guest manda
vaseline should do the trick if you can get to the tick in the ear, or nail varnish does the trick too plus the nail varnish is on a stick just coat the back of the tick with it Quote Link to post
ferreting1888 7
i found a polecat in the local petrol station wondering around so i picked it up and couldnt blieve how friendly he was. so i took him home checked him over and was riddled with ticks so dnt think it was that well looked after or else it was on the run for a while anyway what i done was used tweesers and got good grip and pulled out 23.he did not try once to bite me. then a spray of frontline and he looked so great i bread him with one of my jills and gave him to a [bANNED TEXT] because i already had a hob. hes one of the best polecat hobs ive seen even today.i visit him sometimes and i see him. Geoff.C 0
Your not suppose to pull ticks out ur suppose to suffocate them Manda,it's ok to pull them out as long as you have a proper tick remover. This has angled jaws like tweezers, but they meet at the tip and leave a gap behind. This enables you to take hold of the tick's abdomen, leaving the blood filled "stomach"intact. You then twiddle it around until it lets go,check that both the jaws have stayed on the tick. Check the site on your dog or ferret, and just dab a little antiseptic on. The best way to kill a tick, once removed,is to belt it with a hammer!! They can live for days if dropped in water like you would fleas. The very worst thing you can do is try to pull a tick off by gripping the blood sac,as it is liable to "inject" a mixture of blood and digestive type juices into your animal,YUK!!! Of course none of this applies in the confines of a ferrets ear, vaseline to choke it is probably all you can do? Quote Link to post

I've got the tick pickers, but I've also done it with a pair of needlenose tweezers. The idea is to grip the tick by the head, not the body, as close to the skin as possible, and twist and pull in one motion. Easier said than done though, and i'd totally recomend the proper tick removers, it's safer for the ferret. Quote Link to post
