Had a good morning and a very interesting tour,the engines are very similar to those in the titanic,I was surprised at how quiet they actually run.Met a guy who came from Australia to see it,I travelled ten minutes.

Two identical engines in there,used to pump London water between 1929 and 1980,enthusiasts maintain it now,open a couple of weekends a year,the engines have featured in a few Titanic documentaries.

I went to see a working steam driven beam engine in Ballarat Australia.

When I worked for British Engines in the early 70’s we had a steam driven lathe that was used for metal spraying, it couldn’t be electric driven because of the metal dust in the air could cause a short.

Used to have steam driven winding gear in 1 of the pits I worked at, its still there beautiful pice of British engineering, I got to ride in the cage it lifted/dropped a few times, 1 of the last to ever ride in it

hi Mack, isn't there something like this in New Zealand that runs the same, (on a smaller scale) that supply's a lot of energy, have you seen it....

Winding gear and the steam engine are still there, sadly no shaft

I lived opposite knoll hill steam rally as a young kid , used to get free entry. Father used to make horse brasses and steam engine brasses for them , was quite impressive to watch the engines as a youngster

Mate of mine got two full size traction engines. Something about the smell of a steam engine. Biggest problem they are having is getting decent coal at a decent price.
