Comanche

seems to be a well read man.....who has taken the moto "know thy enemy" literally, well done that man and some cracking points, i haven't been ferreting as long as you, only nearly 20 years, i knew of the re-absorbtion thing but never put 2 and 2 together......the does with the small young inside are just taking a chance and if the weather stays cold they wont drop them, makes sense now but i never thought in that way!

Probably not quite that simple (,any sort of stress can cause the internal abortion thingy at any time of year)but whatever the cause it helps the survival of prime breeding does in times of adversity and saves them the time and energy involved in rearing unviable litters. Thanks for the kind comments.I'm off to put my anorak back on.

I realise its not that simple, i was simplifying it for everyone to grasp what you were implying. Its a very valid point though

I'll get my anorak as well! :whistling:

Once again Comanche, thank you for informative and interesting info. I too have been rabbiting since the 70's and some years are better than others. It's only when we stand back and view these objective points do we not blame ourselves or dogs or ferrets and realise there are other underlying factors for differing results.

Still blame myself, dogs and ferrets though!

just to add that over the last couple of days a t least 5 of the rats the dogs have caught were ready to drop. dont know whether they have regular breeding seasons which start now or whether global warming etc got to them too!

mines were all clean too but hill rabbits are always a bit later than lowland rabbits at breeding, plenty fat on them too

It can be mate but there's a hell of a lot of genuine people down here also!

According to my mum who is also my granny and my sister's twin brother my family are still owed royalties from that film. Enclosed is a picture of my sister!
