LONGNETTING LAST NIGHT

With the wind howling and rabbits required Jimmy,Tam and I headed out to drop the nets.We arrived my permission at 10pm and were soon in the field to be netted.

Jimmy put the end pin of the 100 yarder into the ground and I started walking it out as Jimmy pegged up behind me.All was going well untill the top cord went slack  it had snapped,we managed a quick fix and carried on,only for the cord to break again further along. Once again we sorted it as best as we could and finally got the net ran out.

Next we ran out a 50 yarder then a 30 yarder without any hiccups.I left Jimmy and Tam at the nets and went off to bant the field. When I got back to the nets I was told we only had the 7 rabbits in the bag, hardly surprising after all the hassle we had setting the nets.

Once we had the nets lifted we decided to try another drop two fields away. This time we only dropped the 100 yard and 50 yard net.More hassle dropping the 100 yard net that Jimmy had lifted,it had quite a few small branches in it which stopped it running out properly. Parts of the net were actually off the ground. The 50 yarder went out sweet as a nut.

This time Tam and I banted the field and again we got 7 rabbits,Jimmy did say that some of the rabbits had managed to get below the net were it was slightly off the ground.

Considering the carry on we'd went through it wasn't such a bad result to end up with 14 rabbits.I dont envy Jimmy's task of sorting his net out and putting a new cord onto it.

Jimmy and I spent an hour at the local playing fields today sorting out his 100 yard net.

He decided to turn it into 2 X 50 yarders, which will make it easier for him to pick it up.

We are now ready for the next windy night or an order for some rabbits :) then we'll be back out for another drop.
